I note that the Byron Nelson Classic, one of the mainstays of the PGA Tour every year, had a rain delay of over 2 hours during the final round, and there were huge puddles created in bunkers and other places on the course. Yet they chose to continue play on a course that obviously was 'playable but not in championship condition' rather than just award the various finishing positions based on some arbitrary metric.
It was actually the first win on tour for the young man who prevailed after the full 72 holes, so he gets to move on to other events, including next year's Masters. I don't know if he was in the lead when the delay happened. If he wasn't, he should be awfully glad that the NCAA wasn't running the tournament.
