I have lots of questions about this angle, and really wonder if something is wrong with this team. There have been hints of this in Andersen's press conferences, especially 2 weeks ago after Arizona:

"Defensively, we've got to make sure we have the right players in the right spots. There is no magic defense, so you put them out there. They've been challenged mightily. They need to accept that role, or they need to not be involved in the defense. Like I said before, we have the ability to put 70 kids on an airplane. We put 67 on an airplane (for the Arizona game). So if next week, if we have 70, we'll put 70. If we have 65 that I believe and trust (to) compete and play at a high level, then we'll them on that airplane. We won't compromise what we do, what we believe and what we feel. We'll put the best kids out there and let them fight and battle for the spots. That's where we are on defense. They're playing with effort, but they don't, as a whole group, completely understand the responsibility factor of playing big-time, Division I football on the defensive side of the ball. That's where we're at. And that's a lot of youth. It's all the things that you can talk about try to make a case for somebody feeling sorry for you. I'm not interested in any of that garbage. I'm interested in getting these kids better and, quite frankly, challenging them mightily to accept that role."
I also remember hearing an interview or press conference where he was alluding to the fact that some kids don't necessarily want to be here, and there will probably be some turnover after this year. Unfortunately I can't find any record of that online. Then there's this little bit from the Statesman Journal:

“It’s time to sit down, put on our big-boy pants as coaches and look at each other in the mirror, and as players, and make sure that we really wanna be in this fight,” Andersen said this week.
Andersen, for one, is definitely in. The same can be said for the vast majority of the team.
But senior defensive end Jaswha James said not everyone is on the same page.
“A lot of guys, I’m not sure who they are, but according to the coaches there are some guys that act like they don’t wanna be here. They’re not giving 100 percent at all,” James said. “Those guys eventually get weeded out of this thing. Once we start winning they’re gonna regret not being on this train.”
Me again. It's interesting that James doesn't know who they are, but are being told that by the coaches. I have to wonder, why would the coaches say stuff like that? Doesn't that just foster locker room division? Maybe they're trying to make the bad apples feel marginalized?
I had high hopes for a 6-win season this year, but I'll be very surprised if we win another one this year. I like what the future holds, but this year is looking more and more like a throwaway season...
