PJ has athleticism and speed. Good defensive outfielder. Good team guy and an asset in the dugout. Pj is a one lever swinger. Triggers from a low hands position with fast body rotation moving the bat through the zone with his arms sans wrist cock that prevents any bat lag (what you want). The result is a swing that Trackman sez is elevated above the ideal 7.5 degree launch angle. Go back and Catalog PJ's outs during his OSU career - an unusual number of pop ups and strike outs. Swing correction for PJ would have been a major untaking. It was not just a "tweak" here and there but rather starting over from ground zero. Hmmm good analysis.....he does have a different swing with the high bat stance. And the type of hits he usually gets also chime with what you are saying......

Aren’t all players there to improve? Isn’t it the coaches duty to help them become the best ball player they can be? Sure, a “major undertaking” is a challenge, but PJ has been with the team for a long time. Why wouldn’t they have initiated swing correction a long time ago? Or is that why PJ started the season as our hottest hitter but then drifted back to looking lost? I wonder.

On several occasions in 2019 and 2020, the question has been put to our coaches - "who is our hitting instructor?" The reply has been consistent, "all the coaches are involved, we do it as a group".
Personally, I am not a fan of coaching by committee. It's difficult to get two coaches on the same page, much less 4 or 5.
Maybe a long weekend holed up on the Oregon coast would benefit the coaching staff. Come to agreement of what you want to teach as a foundation and philosophy for hitting, then discuss the individual swing needs of all position players on the roster. Every coach has input, then designate ONE GUY to coach your hitters implimenting the plan you designed on the coast.

Hard to watch a guy like PJ not develop into the player he should be.
