Unusual circumstance setting up between right now (pre game time Sunday) and Wednesday.
With todays starter being Pfennings, that's the 4th starter the Beavs have used this weekend (both Beaver 'starters', Hjerpe and Frisch, threw about 40 pitches yesterday).
Those 4 pitchers (Abel, Hjerpe, Pfennings and Frisch) have started 32 of 37 games played this season, with Washburn and Sebby getting the rest.

Sebby looks like he's being saved for midweek. Sure would be nice to go through a game without using 4 or 5 pitchers. LOL Who knows? Maybe it's better that way because they need less time to recuperate.

Pitching Coach / Mitch will have some interesting choices Tue. / Wed. On at least one of those days someone might get their first start of the season. Beavs have 20 pitchers on the staff. Hello JUSTIN THORSTEINSON !?!

Hello JUSTIN THORSTEINSON !?! Really could be that way. Looking at the roster at the beginning of the year, I thought we had an abundance of pitchers. Feels like twice as many as a regular year. Yet somehow it's not enough.

This was bad scheduling.....shouldn't have scheduled two midweek games between two good teams.

In order to maximize effectiveness, keep bodies fresh and prevent arm/shoulder injuries, the trend in professional baseball is keeping your starts short and using the 1 inning appearance from your bullpen boys.
We are witnessing that approach right here in River City. The pen stays fresh and the focus is sharp. The average appearance is about half of a short flat ground bullpen session. For future reference think about going into Omaha with 17 fresh arms. I think Dorman has our workload about right. I believe Pfennigs had an oblique issue (not arm or shoulder) and that's it - think 17 pitchers playing 56+ games without injury.
Modern science at work.

Hopefully this two week death march will be a big growing experience for the team!

Except for the pitcher and catcher, baseball is not a game where professional or college players are tired or sore, the day after a game (when they are still young). Pros play every day and it only enhances their performances!

Rest can also mean loss of focus ! Edgy is good, IMO the hitters ( early on ), were daydreaming through their at bats ! They are now , except for a couple of guys - doing much better at the plate! However, the pitching staff continues to stumble and cannot deliver the knockout punch when necessary ! Additionally , catching still seems to be in an experimental stage ! Cost us big time yesterday after K and errant throw ! Still love the way they are battling! Hope that Melton was just resting, not seriously hurt ! Missed him in a few situations yesterday !

It'll be interesting to see how this approach develops. So how do the scouts deal with this? I mean, with limited work means limited stats. Fewer wins, etc. Will it affect the draft ranking for our pitchers, do you think?
