.400/ .459/ .705 . . . . .Jacob Melton's speed and power is just amazing. The "sky is the limit" for that young man. In my humble opinion.

Just hope the frequent free passes don't leave him without clutch hitting opportunities !

This confirms my opinion that MC has done the correct decision on having Melton lead off. It gave him one more AB that saved us from defeat with his HR. If he was down in the 3 or 4 spot he would not have had that extra AB. With his speed and OBA he is the perfect leadoff choice.

Yep ....that’s my take plus his base running game can add up to a extra run during a tight game .....I’m glad to see MC move him to leadoff

Just hope the results on the field don't find him at A Ball next year I'd love to see the core of this team back next year. I know we'll lose AA, Mully, and P. Jones, but could you imagine if the rest returned? That could be super fun!

Sabermetrics! Every MLB game played over the past 20+ years, carefully catalogued and surrounded by mountains of data. Expectations, probability and facts, tell you . . . . . .Your best hitter hits in the 2-hole or can lead off if speed is present. Our coaches know that - it's etched in stone.
"A 2-hole guy should have average to plus speed, be a bat control guy that can bunt effectively. and hit for average." Many of us grew up with that wisdom. That only fits in a perfect scenario, lead off man reaches base, #2 hitter gives us options, he can play hit and run, protect a steal attempt or lay down the perfect bunt. The 3 hitter rips a double down the line and the cleanup hitter crushes one over to the next county. That's the model, unfortunately it's a very imperfect world and even more imperfect in the game of baseball. How many times does that model scenario actually happen? Once every 5 or 6 games?
Melton-Ober hitting 1-2 makes sense and we are benefitting from it. Leading off, Melton will get an average of 5-6 more at at bats over a 56 game schedule, His OB% of .456 is the highest on the team and that's what leadoff guys do, they get on base. He gives us plate power cleaning up any baserunners from the bottom of the order. The additional benefit is his ability to pilfer bases and aggressively take the extra base .....or two.
Baseball is a game of random occurances and situations. Leading off, it's very possible Melton will come to the plate with more baserunners than he would hitting in the 3 or 4 hole.
Analytically, the offensive production expectancy is greater for the Beavs with Melton-Ober at the top of the order. That move has been fermenting for a while, it's now cooking on a high boil.
