Don’t be surprised to see Jody Wynn, recently fired as UW Husky coach, be in the running for the USC job. She was a finalist the last time the job was open (before Trakh was rehired). They offered the job to Karl Smesko of Florida Gulf Coast U (“Dunk City”) a friend of Andy Enfield, men’s coach who came from FGCU. Smesko accepted, so Wynn took the Husky job, then Smesko backed out and USC Reached out to Trakh to take the job. Wynn played for Trakh, and played at USC with Lisa Leslie and Tina Thompson. USC is Wynn’s dream job, but not sure if her lack of success at UW will disqualify her in USC’s eyes. USC can't be that dumb can they? Lack of success at UW is an understatement. 11-58 in conference in 4 years is absolutely horrible. She proved beyond a shadow of a doubt she can't get it done in the Pac 12.

Position has been open for 2 weeks now. In the meantime Baylor has had their coach leave and already hired her replacement.
This hire (whenever it ultimately happens) will say a lot about how much USC cares about WBB.

They hired Lindsay Gottlieb (Cal’s former HC).

They hired Lindsay Gottlieb (Cal’s former HC). Congrats USC on continuing on the treadmill of mediocrity. Hopefully 7th or 8th in the pac will be enough for them to get into the Tournament once in a while.

The long suffering USC faithful will not stand for this. Look for a movement to boycott games and push attendance below 1,000 per game and ... Oh, wait. Apparently that particular boycott has been in place since 2014. Well, they'll think of something to express their displeasure - but nobody will be aware of what it is.

LG was an assistant under J.B. Bickerstaff at Cleveland who should be a familiar name to followers of the OSU MBB team. Played for the Beavs 1997-1999.

Her resume is very impressive. She didn't show much in her last couple of years at Cal - but if she can rope in the cream of the Southern Cal talent she could build a decent team In only two years...
The next step will be to see who she hires as assistants, but I'd bet one of them will be a local women's coach who has a good reputation with the local high school programs and summer travel teams. Within a 75-mile radius of the USC campus is a lot, a LOT, of WBB talent. GO BEAVS!!

I don't know, getting to the NCAA tourney year after year doesn't seem to be all that horrible an achievement. And a final four? I think USC will be happy with that.

They hired Lindsay Gottlieb (Cal’s former HC). You gotta be kidding me! Gottlieb was atrocious at CAL with X's and O's and could not recruit worth a dam. That is the best they could do? Any WAC coach would be a step up. IMO.

Look at her record, her success was done with Joanne Boyle’s recruits and it slide down hill from there where she would have been likely fired. To think she is comparable to Coach Rueck is adsurb, not that you implied it. So if Scott left she would be on your short list. Yeah right!
Even the CAL board thought she was a flop even up to today news. So you think there will be recruiting battles Scott will have to fight with USC now?

I think this may be a better hire than some here think. The other part of this story is that USC is making a financial commitment as well, throwing more money at WBB. There is a big emphasis currently on Women's basketball in this country. I'll say this as well, the future looks bright for Oregon State Women's basketball right now, but in this environment, you can't take the foot off the pedal. SR needs to make strong moves in this hiring process.

To me, this is a pretty average hire. She has good Pac-12 experience, obviously, and she knows the west coast well. She got off to a hot start at Cal, but her recruiting was really starting to fall off. She left the cupboard pretty bare for Charmin Smith. Her 2017, 2018, and 2019 classes were all pretty small, and two of them transferred out.
Could’ve done worse, but not a “home-run” IMO.
