Stats mean little on a game to game basis....but just for fun:
Fielding is one potential area of difference: OSU .985 w 17 errors / 9 passed balls >>>>> Cal .968 w 38 errors / 5 pb [this may be an irrelevant difference as Freshman IF Brian McClellin has accounted for 10 of those errors, while starting only 10 games; he's appeared in 17 games total w a FA of .773 - ouch! Lately, he's riding the bench.]
OPS is fairly different: OSU .810 >>>>> Cal .715
SO / BB (similar): OSU 278 SO / 147 BB........Cal 259 SO / 126 BB
WHIP (similar): OSU 1.10.......Cal 1.28
Cal Friday starter has not been same thru the season. OSU baseball webpage says Grant Holman tonight. He's started the last 3 Fridays (Utah, USC, AZ) with a combined 11.2 innings / 6 hits / 4 BB / 13 SO / 2 earned runs. He seems to have settled in as Friday starter.

OSU baseball webpage says Grant Holman tonight. He's started the last 3 Fridays (Utah, USC, AZ) with a combined 11.2 innings / 6 hits / 4 BB / 13 SO / 2 earned runs. He seems to have settled in as Friday starter. Grant Holman is California's ace. He had bicep tendinitis to start the season. He has been working his pitch count back up. He threw 40 pitches against Utah, 60 against USC and 83 against Arizona. The first two were quality starts, giving up a single hit in both (although the hit against USC was a home run). He has a 5:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Arizona managed to eke out four hits (all singles) through four innings and managed to pair those with four walks to put together one run. Holman picked up a tough luck loss, when Sam Stoutenborough came in and immediately gave up four runs on five singles in 2/3 of an inning. Without Holman and freshman All-American Joseph King, California dropped the first series against Pacific (1-1 in Berkeley and 0-2 in Stockton). The Bears have since won every series save one since. That one series was the series against Arizona in Tucson and, even with Stoutenborough giving up those four runs, the Bears still outscored the Wildcats in the series.
