Amazing news- a very versatile player that will only get better with one year of Pac-12 experience under her belt. This makes me wonder who will start at the 3. Taya or Ellie?

Mack can play multiple positions taya is a 3 and 4 but mack can shoot from all three levels. She can do a lot of things well.

Amazing news- a very versatile player that will only get better with one year of Pac-12 experience under her belt. This makes me wonder who will start at the 3. Taya or Ellie? I'm thinkin' Tellie or Elliya...will start. At least the Beavs will have 2 to play the 5 (Jones, Mitrovic) 2 to play the 4 (Mack, Kennedy) and 2 to play the 3 (Corosdale, Kampschroeder). Now they need 2 to play the 1 (TVO plus Adams???) and 2 to play the 2 (Kampschroeder.....plus Marotte???). That would put the roster at 9, not counting Mannen. I realize that besides the 4, Mack could also play the 3. Finally, is Aquino graduating or returning?

Ellie has not shot very effectively from ANY level as of yet. I haven't watched her enough to make a judgment as to why she came into the program as an acknowledged shooter, and then couldn't find a shot in her first year at OSU....
The usual explanation is that she had trouble adjusting to tougher competition. I hope that's the correct answer because if it is we can reasonably expect some improvement next season. She is a tough kid who likes to muscle and hustle. If she can truly develop a dependable 3-point shot she will be a solid asset to this team. She's not quick by any stretch of the imagination, but she's rugged and that counts for something.
At any rate, I'm glad she's decided to invest another year in the program - it should pay good dividends. GO BEAVS!!

I thought Ellie could have been utilized more in breaking the press. She handles it pretty well. She’s not going to take a Kiana Williams off the dribble but, if the opponent is playing a man press, she can get it across against most who are defending her.
Really glad she’s staying. She will be even better next year.

Remind me again why these students are getting another year?!?! Because they missed last season's post season?? Mack could end up playing almost 170 games in her 6 year career... good for her, but all Tudor was asking for was to play half of her fourth season. Another slap in the face from the NCAA to Tudor. Between allowing all these transfers to have immediate eligibility and giving player a 5th and 6th year.. I think NCAA made a big mistake

At any rate, I'm glad she's decided to invest another year in the program - it should pay good dividends. GO BEAVS!! One reason is because shooting and specifically 3-pt shooting is HEAVILY dependent on the sample size. A 20 game season really isn't that large of a sample for someone's "Actual" shooting percentage. At Bucknell she shot 37% from 3 as a Freshman, 38% from 3 as a Sophomore, and 43% as a Junior. At OSU she shot 36.7% from 3, but in only 60 attempts. In fact, all she would have needed to do is go 3 for her next 3 and she would have shot the exact same from 3 as Taya did last year, 39.7%. Also, of the first year players at OSU last year, Ellie had the highest 3pt percentage, although Sasha at 35.8% was very close, with the previous small sample size swings always possible. The thing that gives me optimism is she has a smooth shooting form, and she's an excellent foul shooter. 83% from there gives me hope she's going to settle into someone who will shoot next year at about 40%.

wbosh15 - good info and good research....
One point, in addition to your % info, is that Mack never really looked very hard for her shot this year. She definitely did not have a green light from Rueck - which indicates, to me, that she is not knocking down her 3s in practice....With her size and savvy she easily could have found 3 or 4 more shots per game if she was encouraged by her coaches to find them.
Shifting gears: How long did it take for coaches to figure out Talia could shoot, and to give her a free hand to find her own opportunities? About 48 hours. So, if in March Mack is still being hesitant in her shot there is something to figure out. If she can get up into the 40's next year, and earn the green light from Coach, that will be a big help to this team - scoring wise.
And, as near as I can tell, this team is gonna need a lot of scoring help next year.... GO BEAVS!!
