This seems a topic worthy of exploration. The traditional protocol, where the person transferring sits out a year, seems a bit harsh, but not draconian, while immediate eligibility has led to the current ridiculous state of affairs and is simply bad for the game.
I think I'd be good with, as a general rule, if you want to transfer after 2 years with a program, you get immediate eligibility and the same number of years you would have had at the original school. If you transfer after 1 year, you have to sit a year, but have the same number of years to play as you would have.
If you transfer under extenuating circumstances (coach is gone, school drops program, that type of thing) you get immediate eligibility.
Your thoughts?

I don't know what the proper process for transferring is,but the current situation is total chaos. How do you manage a roster when schools are losing anywhere from three to six to nine players in some instances. It's too easy to get disgruntled and give up on a situation after a year and just bail. It's been exacerbated by covid. Hope we get back to some form of sanity soon that is fair to the players and schools.

I think the NCAA is going to have a difficult time going back to stricter transfer rules. With that said, as a fan who enjoys recruiting, I want to know that when the Beavs land a Taylor Jones or a Sasha Goforth, that they will be with the program for four years. I want to be able to look at the team this coming season with excitement knowing this is a top 10 team (or whatever). Now you look at the next year with doubt questioning who is even going to be on the team, and not having much idea on how good they may be.
With early entry into the draft, and the transfer portal, it's hard to look forward to watching any particular player and get excited for the future. Sasha was one her way to being one of my all time favorites. Oh well....

The proper way to approach them: men bow and women curtsy. Otherwise, they may transfer again.

Unfortunately, extenuating circumstances and the NCAA ruling on a case by case basis already failed miserably. There was no transparency on their decisions and it gave every indication of not being consistent. Several players left the same school at the same time, and there were different decisions on whether they were immediately eligible or not. That simply makes no sense, they were in the same situation, how could there be different conclusions drawn? Some people are better coming up w/ sob stories than others? Some are better at exaggerating or lying? You can't really trust the NCAA to get anything correct when they use their "judgement."

I thought it was going to be really fun watching her blossum into one of the all time Beaver greats over the next 3 years. Very, very dissappointing. Can't hate on her, but I won't be going out of my to root for or against Arkansas.

I'm in favor of a first time transfer = immediate eligibility. As discussed on other threads, 16/17 year old athletes might make a decision (or two) in their young lives that they would like to change. I think this gives the athlete a chance to remedy a wrong decision. Any further transfers that athlete makes should create the consequence of sitting out a season of competition.
Agree that the free for all of this year is very unsustainable.

The major unintended consequence is the main recruiting will be now in the transfer portal. You do not have to worry about losing said recruits as much when they use up there get out of town free card.
The major downside to this is the recruiting process with the transfer portal has much less structure and decision process techniques to make the correct decision. The second decision is often worse than the first.

Hazing. Definitely hazing. But old school stuff. Stuffing into lockers, butt races, upside down in garbage can, etc.

I'm pretty sure you mean Prostrate, the extra R really changes the meaning ! No, he really means prostate, as in cutting it out and laying it on the floor of the court...like a sacrifice. It's been too much trouble as of late anyway. [of course he doesn't realize that his bladder comes (goes) with it.]

This can only add to the 'Rich get richer' situation ! Combine the out of control transfer portal with paying the athletes - and, the entire concept of student - athlete goes out the window. No need for NCAA ( never really has been ), this is now just a minor league for developing WNBA ( and NBA), athletes at the expense of each University and the moneyed donors ( uncle Phil, et al ) ! One and Done is bad enough .... We will have agent interference, under the table and top of the table payoffs to kids and families ! Basketball is the worst example - even with limited rosters Would like to see how many basketball players never finish an education ! Of course , there will still be exceptions - but the ones that finish have no pro prospects ! Watch prices on attendance, and everything else, skyrocket to cover additional costs ! I guess that the cornhole games will be my new outlet

I was super disappointed with the news.
