Score one run not going to win many games. Need to score more runs to win. Beavs have won a fair amount of games with just one run .....tonight was a great pitching duel and Jacob getting that triple off Ahlstrom to help tie the game up at 1-1 was huge but we just didn’t finish it like we should have

When the entire outfield can't hit, and a catcher who doesn't have the bat to make up for his defensive miscues, that's 4 dead spots in the line up. This team is essentially trying to score runs with only 5 hitters. The bottom third of the order (all outfielders) were free outs, and sadly, that may be the M.O. for this entire season regardless of who is actually in the outfield, unless Coach Canham gets a wild hair and sticks an outfielder elsewhere in the line up (Casey batting fifth).
This team, is a bubble team at best from what I've seen thus far. Overall pitching is good enough to play in June, but that's it.

It feels like this team just does not have "it." So many runners left in scoring position, free bases given away defensively by mental errors, and then a total meltdown by the bullpen to cap it off. But minus the bullpen meltdown, these are problems that have reared their ugly heads repeatedly this year. It's frustrating, because when this team is good, it is REALLY good. But there's no consistency. And giving away a game like that against your biggest rival... that just shouldn't happen with a team of this caliber. In 2013, after dropping a game to Oregon in Corvallis, the Beavers played a three-game series against the Ducks in Eugene. Tommy Thorpe (8th Round, #229 overall) pitched his best game of the season, outpitching Matt Boyd (6th Round, #175 overall), who picked up a complete game loss. Oregon outhit Oregon State 7-2, leading to a three-run win. Both of the Beavers' two hits were infield singles. In 2013, Oregon State came back to win the next two games in Eugene by a combined 21-2 count to take the series. The Beavers won the following home series against Washington State to earn a National Seed. Oregon State won five of six in Corvallis to punch a ticket to Omaha. Danny Hayes' last long fly ball to right fell a couple of feet short of the fence to put the Beavers in a hole that they were not able to overcome. Losing a game in Eugene is nothing to worry about by itself, but not rebounding in the game following would be a cause for concern. We will all know a lot more about this Oregon State team after tomorrow.

However, even with a loss the Pac doesn't scare me in 2021. I'm not saying the conference is weak, I just don't see any teams that resemble the 2017-2018 Oregon St Omaha bound teams.
Those were teams that could both pitch and mash a baseball. It takes both to make a "scary team."

I just checked with my analytics staff (my wife and son) and may have found a couple of problems. We have trouble with with Pitchers that throw strikes. We noted the other team did much better facing our Pitchers who did not throw strikes. Our conclusion is we should only play teams that Pitchers don't throw strikes. A bit more fine tuning of the lineup might help. We have about 3 hitter who should not be allowed to swing. We also have about 3 hitters that should be told they must swing. That might lead to a more balanced offense.

I really like Melton at first, he catches every errant throw, but maybe he has to play RF just to get rid of a dead bat.

At this rate, it might not be a bad idea to stick a bat in Washburn’s hands! That kid was a masher in HS.

Sure he went 0-4 yesterday, but so did Dukart. And Forrester, McDowell, and Ober all went 0-3. He may not be a strong hitter, but when you have good hitters like Forrester, Ober, and Dukart not hitting, then perhaps the problem isn't McMahan.

Watching us strike out is very hard. No chance of hitting unless they attack early. To watch breaking balls over and over without adjusting is beyond Me. They make average pitchers look like Tom Seaver. It has been a problem almost all Year. Hate to say it but they appear better than us. Seems to be a big deal to their coach. Rivalry. Well we are 1-3 with two to play. Time to get aggressive.

Abel looked like he was dealing last night and so was Ahlstrom. I think the umpire was pretty generous with the high pitch zone for Ahlstrom though and maybe that affected our bats some as well but our guys need to adjust sometimes. Jones and Armstrong had good at bats.....Andy’s last out was a hard hit liner that unfortunately went right at the left fielder .....otherwise we take the lead in the 8th. Claunch looked better at the plate as well last night versus what I’ve seen lately from him

We had opportunities last night to score some runs, but we couldn't capitalize. That's an all-too-familiar tune for the Beavs.

Where is our offense? Are the ducks that good? I can’t believe we struggle hitting their pitching.
