portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/309056-187068-beavers-keys-for-year-1-without-gp2recruits, offseason player development, blah blah blah.....and then this: "OSU’s basketball locker rooms will be renovated this summer, and there is the possibility of the addition of a new center-hanging Jumbotron before next season." I'm not a huge proponent of this...Gill seems a little small to make this necessary. Have people been clamoring for this? I've never had a problem with looking one way or the other to see replays.

I am 1000% for this and have been for decades. Absolutely no reason for Gill not to have this modern amenity.
Very happy to hear this development. WTG Coach Tinkle and AD Stansbury.
BTW, the bigger the better!

The "bigger" might not be able to happen... Gill's structure was not built to modern day standards to support major suspended structures. Once you begin to do certain 'remodels' to historic buildings you get into an entirely different ball park of costs and "do's and don'ts".
I had this discussion a few years back when Gill remodel was being tossed about. Rrom those that know much more about this... they say it would be a very limited score board, maybe info only... video boards to stay put where they are. Having a 2 or 4-sided video screens that makes sense for decent viewing can be structurally very heavy. The other issue besides support is height so blocking the views of the score or video boards that remain (?) is not obstructed...
Any improvements will be a plus.

Modern electronic/aluminum/LED technology makes everything lighter. I remember when a mammoth fiberglass and steel band shell hung from the roof structure of Gill. I'm sure that monstrosity (plus the old fashioned center speaker array of the time) weighed more than a modern 4 sided video board. While I'm not a structural engineer I work with them on major projects as a regular part of my job. I don't see mere weight as a limiting factor. Sight angles likely more so.
P.S. I think the suspended band shell disappeared around the time the LaSells Stewart Center opened and they stopped trying to have acoustic concerts/performances in Gill.

I'd be thrilled with just a new sound system. The one that is there now can sometimes make one's ears bleed.

Mac court had a center hung score board I am sure gill can hold one Way, way back, the dux had a football player who went on to play in the NFL as a kick returner. I can't remember his name, but the guy showed he was at the right school by bouncing on a trampoline at half time and jumping high enough to touch their old scoreboard. One inch off and he would have ended up in the third balcony of that old firetrap.
Maybe last name James?
