Makes no sense to this guy, but also, it's the NCAA... Looking forward to having 10 SEC host schools lol.

Sounds like a solution looking for a problem

They’re taking bids....Hmmm....I wonder how much extra revenue the NCAA is hoping to garnish from this maneuver. Off the record, of course.

There is no way in heck that OSU has a shot at hosting, unless they get special dispensation from the state. Only places that will allow 100% capacity, with the biggest venues, will be given a regional/Super, and since OSU keeps testing the least cautious and last to vaccinate group in the state over and over again, the chances of meeting a "bubble" standard are, IMO, zero. We will get lucky to have 50% capacity in Benton County on anything by June as long as OSU students lead the state in infections per capita.
Now having said that, our record away from Goss has been pretty good so far this year, so we have that going for us.

Seems hosting is earned, not purchased! The company line is that it's so they can set up adequate COVID testing facilities/processes at each location. Regional awards will still be given on merit (WINK WINK). Sounds like the super regionals will be held at one of the 16 regional award sites. So theoretically, you could have 2 teams playing in the supers at a 3rd team's home field if the host school has been knocked out. We could also see a scenario where someone fades down the stretch and still gets to host. Should be interesting... In the meantime, let's just keep winning games so we're hard to ignore as a potential host.

I completely agree hosting is earned and not purchased. My take... I'm not sure the NCAA is looking for locations where fans can attend. They seem to have been hands off on that issue. Logistically, if you know you want to put the games on TV... you use that as a matrix for decision making? Just a guess. I can see them wanting to get Parents and family in attendance. Remember the issue with the bowl games... so many players were willing to refuse to play in states and counties where fans were not allowed at all... maybe they are trying to get in front of that? Pac 12 Mens BB tournament had family and GP in attendance... NCAA tourney had some fans... But how can you try to predict what the state or county will decide to do in June while you are in April? Who knows for sure. Seems to me that several organizations are jumping on an opportunity to change things under before the Pandemic ends. Lastly, maybe this works out for us? I don't expect us to earn a regional with our play on the field but we have a great facility. We certainly can submit Goss as an option and see what unfolds. Maybe we host 4 teams that doesn't include the Beavs? Maybe we get to host by default... ala the Super Regional game vs Michigan in 2007

Just to put some numbers out (and prices could be conservative), let's say OSU sells 3500 all-session tickets at 90 for a regional, that's ~300,000 plus 3500 super-regional for $60, that's $100,000. That's $400,000. If OSU can only sell 1000 tickets per game, well let's just say some wide open SEC stadium or many of the Big-10, Big 12 and ACC parks can hold a lot more and you can be sure that at least one local school will be qualified to host at each regional.

so is this a Covid thing, or just a dumb move by theNCAA? Seems hosting is earned, not purchased! This year, I'm betting earned means "purchased" You used to see this a lot more before 2005. For example, in 2004, only 13 #1 seeds hosted. Two #2 seeds hosted and a minor league ballpark hosted the final regional. Cal State Fullerton won the national championship in 2004 by being a hosting #2 seed, who won and earned the right to host the Super Regional. The Titans then beat #3 overall Miami, #2 South Carolina twice and #1 Texas twice to win a National Championship.
