Tournament losses, ranked..... www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/31160535/the-march-madness-pain-index-2021-ncaa-tournament-losses-hurt-worst9. Oregon State Beavers (No. 12 seed, Midwest) How they lost: No. 2 seed Houston defeated the Beavers 67-61 in the Elite Eight Peak win probability: 44.3% (Oregon State 55, Houston 55, 3:29 mark of second half) How much it hurt: Had this Elite Eight game remained on the trajectory that was charted when Houston took a commanding 34-17 lead into the halftime break, Oregon State's late-season march would have been remembered as a fun, unlikely run that ended in appropriate fashion at the hands of a far superior opponent. But man, it was right there for the Beavs. When Gianni Hunt's late-shot-clock 3 banked in to tie the score at 55-55, a program-defining and historic trip as the Final Four's first-ever 12-seed suddenly looked plausible, which is why that final four-or-so minutes will remain tough to swallow for Oregon State and its fans. Houston made a big 3, hit most of its free throws and grabbed multiple critical offensive rebounds to salt it away, while Oregon State missed shots and committed key turnovers to extinguish its upset chances. "It was right there within our grasp with the effort we showed in the second half," OSU coach Wayne Tinkle acknowledged. "Really proud of this group. We got every single ounce out of them." Go Beavers!!

Go Beavers!! And #1 was the VCU non-game with Oregon. After turning a 45-29 game with 13:15 left into a 55-55 game with 3:45 left, Oregon State was starting to feel like a team of destiny. No team seeded lower than 11 had ever gone to a Final Four in Tournament history, and 2021 Oregon State would have had an arguable claim as the best team in team history. And possibly the best 12+ seed in Tournament history. Instead, Houston went on a 12-3 run to put the game away. It was there. A fun fact is that the last 12+ seed team to make it to the Elite Eight was Missouri in 2002. Missouri beat #5 Miami, #4 Missouri and #8 UCLA. Missouri then played #2 Oklahoma coached by Kelvin Sampson. Sampsons' Sooners beat the Tigers by six before losing to Indiana. Indiana lost in the National Championship Game to Maryland 64-52.

During 1983-84 school year, as a freshman at NAIA Div III Montana Tech, I took beginning basketball taught by Oredigger's head coach Kelvin Sampson. He certainly upped my appreciation of basketball, especially since part of the "homework" of the class was to attend all the MBB home games. I also wrote a stats analysis package for his team as a project in one of my CS project courses later on. It was incredibly surreal for me ~2 seasons ago when Oregon State (my grad school alma mater) played Montana Tech in an exhibition game at Gill - never thought I would see that day. Of course, Kelvin was about 6 coaching stops and 4 coaching scandals removed from Montana Tech by then, even though the basketball court there is named after him, thanks to his donation...... Go Beavers!

I believe that Our Lady is fourth behind the (1) Christopher Columbus statue in Arecibo, Puerto Rico; (2) Statue of Liberty; and (3) Pegasus at Gulfstream Park Racetrack and Casino in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
