Isn't anyone who put down 2021 jumping to conclusions? What? We are currently in the Elite 8. What conclusion would they be jumping to? That they were born after 1982?

Born in '63, a few months after the Final Four appearance. But Jim Jarvis's dad, Curt, was my PE teacher for at least a year in high school. He was the basketball coach when his son was at Roseburg. Before that he was at Coquille. I half-way thought Roseburg hired him because of Jim (coach's son) but I'm only guessing.

I know we lost the Elite 8 game to San Francisco and Bill Russell in 1955 (at Gill!!!) by a point. Oregon State almost erased a 57-51 lead with 43 seconds left, pulling within 57-56 and possession with 13 seconds left. However, Ron Robbins missed a shot to take the lead, which resulted in a jump ball with seven seconds left between Oregon State's Swede Halbrook and San Francisco's K.C. Jones. Halbrook won the tip, which ricocheted to the Dons' Hal Perry. The Beavers stole the ball but missed a last-second layup for the win, resulting in a 57-56 loss. Bill Russell finished with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Halbrook also finished with a double-double but with fewer than 20 points.

That poll closed quickly!!! I was live for the two previous runs, but didn’t care about NCAA basketball or Oregon at the time.
So this is just amazing to me! With Payton and Ralph Miller, I saw firsthand just how incredibly difficult it is to get to the NCAA Tourney and win there. Never thought we could win much more than a single game there. Elite Eight, what?!
Beavers are a top 8 basketball team?!
