I thought Mark Radford’s comments were interesting.

I don't disagree with Radford. Coach Tinkle has gotten better as a coach, and anyone who has coached their son and an assistant coaches sons knows it's really difficult to do. Especially when you have three kids who have professional aspirations, and you as head coach are simply trying to win games. In addition,in recruiting, other coaches are going to use it against you when recruiting the same players...you're going to favor your family over the potential recruits. I think Wayne can now just coach his players next year without that hanging over his head. The roster will be very solid likely...

To me the difference hasn't been so much the players as it has been the HC. He has stopped being a micro manager and allowed his players to make plays and do what each of them does best. When guys don't feel like they have to have one eye on the floor and the other on the coach each time they make a mistake they can relax and just play. It's paying dividends this year and it will on down the road. Recruits will take notice. Hugs are good !

To me, the players buying in on the defensive end has been the biggest difference. WT had that buy-in for the first couple of years and then it went away. We are never going to get a bunch of 5 star kids. So, to have success, you are going to have to play great D. Stevie bought in some, but Ethan is the best defender of the coaches kids.
CR had the same issue. His teams had some success early with great D. Then he got a little better athletes offensively, but none of them wanted to focus on the defensive end (looking at you Roberto Nelson). Even with better athletes, we are still not going to be able to outscore people without a defensive focus. Many of the teams in the Pac 12 that are flush with 4 and 5 star players are going to beat you when you try and outscore them.
Tres was a great player, but it seemed like he felt he had to take over every game. This caused him to force shots up when other players were open.

The first 10 minutes or so of the Tennessee game was probably the best team defense I've seen in the Tinkle era. Guys were rotating, talking, getting into passing lanes, closing out shooters, actively looking for someone to box out. Was a beautiful thing.

They took soooo many desperation bad shots as the shot clock expired. It was really fun to watch!

I thought Mark Radford’s comments were interesting. " I had stopped watching it because it was so ugly. I wanted to watch something enjoyable. What they were doing wasn’t working. Maybe it has helped that Tres Tinkle is no longer there. He got every shot. (Wayne Tinkle) was handcuffed by his kid to a certain degree. Now the ball is spread around more and more players are contributing." Is that what you meant? That viewpoint has been strongly attacked on this board.

Imo,that is part of the reason we did so poorly in the tournament. Too much micromanaging by Ralph...players need to play loose and free to be at their best.
