2021 BACKGROUND.
The Santa Clara Broncos come to Goss Stadium for a pair of games against the Beavers on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Broncos are 6-12 on the season having dropped 3 of 4 in their West Coast Conference opening series to San Diego University and then were swept at home last weekend by Gonzaga. With a 1-7 start in WCC play, they head north for a 3 game weekend series with the Portland Pilots following the midweek OSU pair.
Santa Clara is coached by Rusty Filter, Stanford’s former pitching coach who is in his 4th year at SC. The Broncos were 26-26 in 2018, 12-40 in 2019, and 12-5 in Covid 2020. He began this season 50-71 in the rebuilding process of Santa Clara baseball. The Broncos have been picked to finish 8th or 9th in the 10 team WCC. for 2021.

PITCHING STATS FOR 2021
The Broncos have pitched 160 innings in 2021. They have allowed 104 runs (83 earned), on 143 hits, walked 71 batters, struck out 165, allowed an opposing BA of .235 and posted a 4.66 ERA. Their K to BB ratio is 2.3:1 and their WHIP is 1.34.

Alex Waldsmith – 5th yr. SR. Has a 2.92 ERA in 2021
Locke Bernhardt – 5th yr.Sr. 6-0, 170 Has 2.51 ERA in ’21.
Matthew McGarry 6th Yr. Sr. 6-3, 205. Had 62 BB in 55 IP in 2020. Vanderbilt transfer with mid 90’s heat but lacks command.
Cade Pilchard – 6-4, 205 Top recruit in 2019 (Sacramento Jesuit)
Rowan Trosky – 6-2, 200 Top recruit in 2020 (Carmel). Older brother of Oregon State 2021 SS recruit, Jabin Trosky.
