Well, it's a conference upgrade, but a program downgrade. Good luck against Gonzaga, St. Mary's & BYU.

Well, it's a conference upgrade, but a program downgrade. Good luck against Gonzaga, St. Mary's & BYU. Winning against those programs is tough, but there are other, beatable programs in the conference. Somehow Porter fared worse than anyone on the Bluff. But they've been competitive in women's hoops and baseball of late - no reason for them to be so bad at basketball. The Chiles Center has been upgraded, and they have a nice practice gym in the new campus rec center across the street. BTW, for those who go to the Bluff for Beaver baseball, the new baseball stadium is very nice!

Downgrade in what capacity? Legans almost tripled his salary. But of course you guys wouldn't take a quarter million dollar a year raise. edit: reported $315k raise. What a downgrade! FFS

FFS The income tax hike alone will probably gobble up at least 13% of that. He is probably looking at around a $40,000.00/yr. tax hike, depending upon deductions.

Some of these posts seem to be saying he shouldn’t take the UP job. Hey folks, it’s done. He has taken the job, apparently HE considers it a step up. And if you’ve ever been to Cheney, WA you might understand how a move to Portland, and a more prestigious conference for a BIG raise could be very appealing.

I was once "encouraged" to look elsewhere and my salary went from 65k to 110k. Professionally it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

He'll be making a ton more money. He should pay more taxes. And once a month he'll still come out way, way ahead of where he was at EWU.

What's the state income tax in Spokane Co. WA? FIIK Washington has no personal state income tax. Now you know. So an 8.9% sales tax isn't so bad. The money to run the state has to come from somewhere.

FWIW (literally). No, the sales tax varies between 8.1-9.1%. The 8.9% is true for Cheney and Spokane. The sales tax is 6% in Idaho, which is less than 20 miles east of Spokane. Cheney is a solid 150 miles north of Milton-Freewater, which is the closest place to drive to be free from sales tax.
