News from Montana and Katie F.'s alma-mater:....This headline just posted Friday 3-12....."National search to be conducted to find Montana Lady Griz coach for 2021-22".....and this quote from Katie F. earlier this year: " I have a goal to be a head coach of a program someday. I believe I have the leadership qualities to invest in young women and put together a winning basketball team. I think my experiences now are preparing me to take the reins of a program and, alongside great people, make it a great program to be apart of."....and her thoughts on Montana earlier this year: "Montana is a great program. Montana has never stopped being a great program. I know recent events have not been easy for anyone involved, but I believe more than anything in the community, strength and foundation of Montana Lady Griz Basketball. The support of that program will continue to band together to bring great players and great people to Missoula.".....This sounds like a marriage made in heaven....How does she not get offered this job??

Please do not post stuff like this until it's official. Not fair to Katie or those that read this board. Pure speculation!!

Not saying she wouldn't have a shot, especially given OSU's success on the court and recruiting-wise during her tenure, but they're probably looking for someone with a little bit more experience.

Going from the number 4 spot on a coaching staff, to the head job on a D-1 university, even a smaller school like Montana just after her 30th birthday would be a very rare occurrence. I think the world of Katie, but this would be a big, big step up. I'm sure there are also, a number of former Montana assistants that could also be in the running for the job. I'd advice us all to just wait until we hear that she's even been interviewed for the job before we start these kind of posts.

From hoopdirt.com
"University of Montana AD Kent Haslam confirmed last night that he will conduct a national search for a new head women’s basketball ccoach.
Mike Petrino, who coached the team on an interim basis this past season, will be considered as a candidate. Petrino took over last April after former head coach Shannon Schweyen was not retained."
Petrino led the Grizz to a 12-11 (9-8 Big Sky) record during the COVID shortened 2020-21 campaign. He had spent the previous four seasons as an assistant on Schweyen’s staff.

When earlier in the year Katie began following Haley Huard (Montana signee) on twitter, it caught my eye. I know Katie loves Montana. I'm thinking right now Montana may want someone with HC experience, but still, Katie will not be at OSU forever. The title of this post saying Goodbye Katie though is wrong and misleading. We may be saying that soon, but let's wait until any move on her part is official. In the meantime, I love having her on the OSU staff. She's a real asset, and the players seem to love her. It wouldn't be easy to find someone who has that same kind of connection with the players.
A few years down the road, and Aleah may be ready.

Agree that Katie is great. Both for us and for which ever program she goes to next.
It would be VERY appropriate for original poster (jimbob) to modify the title of this thread to be more reflective of the truth - Montana is looking for a new head coach. Then it needs to go into another board.
GO BEAVS!

Just because you are able to smear another individual from the confines of your anonymous online keyboard doesn't mean you should. And no, it wasn't harmless, cute or any other excuse you may use. It didn't add anything relevant to the thread either. No, I am not related. Yes, I had interaction with him when he was in PDX and he appeared to have all the integrity anyone would want from a HC that works with youth and or women.

I vote that the reaction is appropriate. A bit strident, perhaps, but the comment deserved being called out.

I’m sorry but when I hear the name ‘Petrino’ in the context of sports the FIRST thing I think of is this For better or for worse. If we were considering hiring Gary Andersen’s cousin as a coach we might as a humorous side note just say “I hope he doesn’t F up the program as bad his cousin Gary did”. That’s all. Sorry you didn’t appreciate the humor.
