Sorry to belabor this point but...still can't wrap my brain around...758 players in the Portal, 283 schools with at least one player in the Portal out of 350ish total D1 WBB schools ! What's going right with the other 67?

Is there a site online to view all 700+ grad transfers so far? I'm eagerly anticipating a future story documenting the explosion of useless and unfinished Master's Degrees in the US!

At what point will university administrations start holding athletic departments accountable for the waste of graduate resources and instructional time on athletes who have no intention of completing their MA?

Also remember that the portal is not just for grad students. Of the 758 players in the portal today, 243 are grad transfers.

I hadn't even thought of that, but it's an interesting point.

I'd be willing to bet a small amount of money that those players have a higher completion rate than the overall programs. Which is probably saying more about the overall programs students than the women, but still.

"At what point will university administrations start holding athletic departments accountable for the waste of graduate resources and instructional time on athletes who have no intention of completing their MA?"
In general, I'm in sympathy with your idea. But on the practical side: There is no known way to determine which athletes "have no intention of completing their MA."
My guess is that we will see a tightening of the portal rules pretty soon after this current bottle neck has cleared. Probably before September 2021. GO BEAVS!!

One way to do it: The scholarship for a grad transfer counts against your maximum for two years, long enough for the player to complete his/her MA. You want to recruit a guy who has no intent of finishing his/her MA? Fine. But it will cost you.

And so it begins:
Cincinnati WBB grad transfer IImar'I Thomas (5-10 SR wing, Oakland, CA)—the AAC Player of the Year for 2020-21—has announced her commitment to UCLA
UCLA has no players in the Portal (to date) , so they are +1, let's see if we can beat that.

She played four full seasons at UC. This year they played 24 games. She had a full season in 2019-20, except for the NCAA tournament. She had a full college athletic experience. But because of Covid, she (and hundreds of others) will get a fifth year. It's ridiculous. There are very few teams whose seasons were ended early, or shortened considerably. I can see athletes from basketball teams who played less than 18 games deserving another year of eligibility; I think Vandy only played eight games. Otherwise, no. The NCAA totally messed it up. Why should someone who played a full season in 2020-21 get a bonus year, especially when someone like Kat Tudor, who only played 13 games in 2018-19 because of injury, didn't?? The transfer numbers will probably go down next year, because the free year will no longer be in effect. This year is still a mess.

Unfortunately the free year applies to everyone who was enrolled this year, not just Seniors. We'll be seeing a glut of players for a number of years down the road.
Yeah, every time a player announces they are coming back for a 5th (or even 6th year--Ali Patberg at Indiana), it just pisses me off how much Tudor got screwed over. She got to play barely over 3 seasons. A bunch of players are going to get 5.

I think all of us feel horrible for Kat. What's even worse in her case if that had she redshirted, she would probably of had a bigger impact this past year, and she could return next year. Playing this year and next would of been just what this team needs. Oh well.
As far as the NCAA allowing the extra year, I think it was a good idea overall. Many players didn't want to take a chance on another shortend season, with the uncertainties of Covid looming. They could of ended up playing 10, 15, or 20 games, and lost an entire season of eligibility.
