Article You have to scroll down quite a bit Whether she goes back to Europe to play or pursues her medical career, we all know she'll be fine.

Another in a long line of facts that making the WNBA is really, really difficult.

Damn, that's too bad. It is very difficult to make a team if chosen in the second or third rounds.

Personally, I think it's for the best for her. Gets her that much closer to medical school. She's played professionally, she's had a great collegiate career, and she's played for the USA in international competition. So she's checked off just about every box on a young player's list and made memories for a lifetime.
But the longer you stay away from school, the easier it becomes to prolong staying away. I hope she opts for med school at this point.

She's still got the chance to play overseas for at least a few years - and with her focus, I think med school is not going to be as hard for her to shift to than a lot of other people. But it's too bad that the demand for pro women's basketball in the US is not keeping up with the level of talent coming out of college.

bvrbooster - -got to agree with you about the best path ahead for Pivec....Obviously, none of us knows her heart and what it's telling her.... But med school brings its own set of problems, and if she chooses certain specialties she could very well still be interning when she turns 30...
I'm not her advisor, obviously, but if I was I'd recommend hanging up the shoes, go to med school, and set your sights on making a greater contribution to the social good. GO BEAVS!!

I’m worried about a lot of things. But I’m not worried about Mikayla’s future or her decision making.

This is the thing I hate about professional sports .... If you don't hit their measurable ( predetermined ), they 'assume', you cannot make it.

Her being waived by the Dream was set in motion when she left her European team. Her chance for the WNBA was always as a wing dependent on her 3pt percentage. It, as has been said, is important to be drafted high to enhance your chance to make a team in the WNBA.She would have had that opportunity had her 3 pt shooting percentage been higher her last college season. Had she had the same type of year as year as her Jr season she would have been a much higher pick. Her 3pt percentage dropped considerabley from her Jr season as did her efficiency in her overall off the ball game. I mentioned this right after the draft but was discounted as just blowing smoke.
It was important for her to develop her off the ball game and to hone her decision making because the skills she relied on in college were not going to translate to the next level She had regressed considerably in her last year at Oregon St in those areas which required her to make a bigger adjustment as a pro. The Pro's do not give a player much time to adjust. There are just too many available players to take your spot. This is why her minutes dropped in Spain.

She’s not one of the top 144 WBB players in the world? No shame in that.

Wnba is literally a women's version of the nba. There is an obvious difference between the men's and women's college game that doesn't carry on into the wnba. So a lot of really good college players just don't make it. It is also the reason I don't watch it.
