How bad are injuries?

Another very big concern, and it may well be nothing: Verburg didn't pitch and I don't think he warmed up for the entire series. Pitching is deep, but Verburg is top tier.

. . . . . and where was Verburg in the GCU series? He had a good 19 pitch inning in the 5-2 New Mexico win on Monday, and threw a scoreless 12 pitch inning v Kansas State in the Surprise opener.
Is Ryan Brown injured?

Dukart groin and McDowell hammy should be good to go for Thursday vs BYU. Verburg stiffness after first outing.
Bigger concern right now is covid......

I prefer Preston. I think we are a little more lethal with Jones in the lead off spot. Just my 2 cents.

I’m good with either one in the starting slot but I gotta go with Micah due to his speed.. .then Preston...

Preston is a great defender and is good on the bases...and he's a solid vet leader......he just isn't that great of a hitter. He has games, but he disappears a lot at the plate..... I would LOVE for him to really take the next step at the plate, as that would make our team that much better.....I guess we'll see.

Jones started off hot for sure, but I'm looking at his entire body of work as a hitter at OSU. He's started off hot before only to come back to earth against better pitching, especially in conference. I think he's a valuable piece of our team, but he's more Jack Anderson than Trevor Larnach......and I'm not saying McDowell is going to be the next Larnach or Kwan. I would like to see what he can do at the plate. That's all. But I'm just a fan with no say in any of it.

One thing I love love LOVE about college baseball are the giant steps forward we see so many players make in their 3-4 years here.
Any other sport, if you want to succeed, you need players who can play right away. Maybe their body needs to fill out, but their ability is never in question from the first time we see them play.
Not so with baseball. I have written off countless baseball players as a waste of roster space, always shaking my head in doubt as they come to the plate, only to find myself in gleeful anticipation as they approach the plate just 1 or 2 years later.
So in general, I find the notion of "body of work at OSU" to be irrelevent in college baseball. I'm not yet at that stage of saying, "oh boy, here he comes" when Preston comes up, but he's heading that way and I can see him getting there by mid-season if he keeps up his production...
