I remember when a certain departed poster here said Lucas was not a Pac-12 player. Man, those three that got away early are huge, but can't dwell on that. We have really developed and WT has gone a very good job this season under extremely trying circumstances. Nice to put today's game away without the nail-biting of last Thursday. I enjoy it immensely when we defeat Stanford, in any sport. Good time to double down on the collective stupidity of you and the fan base on what you perceive to be a high point. Lucas can't guard his position, can't create for himself, can't create for others. (13/23/.084 PER/USG/WS48), 7.5% AST rate and currently 64th in defensive rating (dead last on the team) out of 73 Pac-12 players playing 20+ a night. The Beavers are forced to sit in zone to hide Lucas & Reichle on the perimeter which leads to problems on the glass. He belongs at Portland State with athletes of a similar profile. Of the Beavers 13 wins on the season only 5 have come against teams with a positive differential despite playing in the worst power conference in the nation. 2 of those 5 are now the Ducks missing 3 starters including Duarte (26/23/.216 PER/USG/WS48) and Stanford missing DaSilva (27/27/.235 PER/USG/WS48). (Post-season? LOL) If Ethan leaves (27% AST rate) the Beavers will be a dumpster fire in the backcourt with Lucas, Hunt, Hand & Key-Malone responsible for creating and defending the perimeter. They're headed right back to the basement (10th or worse). Tinkle isn't building a damn thing but mirage amongst an extremely unintelligent fan base. IF you would like to challenge this forecasting based on analytics/player evaluation/recruiting put your account where your mouth is. I have seen the caliber of basketball discussion here. I guarantee I will accept any poster betting his account on better than 10th next year. Ok, whatever you say, but it looks as if we regressed into another win.

I’ll take positive regression......anyone complaining after a Beaver win is............either stupid, a duck fan or both.

If Tinkle believed a word of that BS he wouldn't be hiding him in zone. He's not a good enough athlete to ever be a stopper. Your numbers are off (+5, +2). WS48 is incorrect, thank you for correcting what should read WS40. You don't play a certain defense to hide a player, you play it too maximize the trouble you cause the other team. If your players defense works best in a zone format, i guess then you are maximizing your positives rather than patching holes. 9-9 in conference is way higher than predicted, so more power to the zone.

No idea what the story is there. I'm not buying that he has the athleticism to be a stopper either, but I do like a coach that believes in the potential of his recruits. As for whether he is athletic enough or not, I'll just say that I didn't think John Stockton was all that athletic either, relative to his NBA peers. I don't have that perspective anymore after hearing Baron Davis talk about him (language warning):

Gee sounds like a heck of a coaching job to take a team of fringe D1 talent and mold them into a .500 Pac-12 team.

Maybe you should find something else to watch as you don't seem to enjoy OSU basketball very much. And saying this "Good time to double down on the collective stupidity of you and the fan base".. really?..Calling other people who post on here stupid? If you disagree with their opinions I get it.. that's what a fan forum is for.. people are going to agree or disagree with each other about their takes. What I don't get is the attack on other posters and calling people stupid.. Does it make you feel better about yourself or something? Anyway that's my 2 cents

The "Lucas should be at Portland State" comment makes no sense. He is an offensive threat that defenses have to account for or they will get burned. And he hustles on D. The most impressive thing about Lucas yesterday was zero turnovers in 34 minutes.

The closest thing to "collective stupidity" this season has been everyone who predicted that OSU would suck and that was not stupidity but the fairly reasonable prediction for a team that was losing its best and most relied on player. Lucas may be a one-trick pony at this point, but there is always room for a guy in basketball who can hit for 20+ on any given night. He's got hustle as well which counts for a lot although you may not see it in the stat sheet. Frankly, relying on the numbers (unless very obviously and heavily skewed) doesn't work as well in a fluid game like basketball as compared to baseball. How bad could Lucas' D have been last night? The five guys who played guard for Stanford last night had 14 points (total!), 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and four turnovers. I suspect that one of our guards who played for 35 minutes last night and got 3 steals had something to do with 'Furd's poor performance. OSU may regress next season because we lose a severely underrated Ethan Thompson, but Lucas will be one of the guys who contributes to lessening the effects of that loss. The toughest thing for Lucas on D is his height; that will always be tough for him. But the notion that he's not an important contributor to our team is pretty damn laughable. Maybe even stupid.

Hard to know if we will drop off next year,we will have two very highly regarded guards coming in,in Davis(top 10 juco) and Malone-Key,a double digit scorer college transfer. In addition,Rand the human pogo stick transfer from Memphis will help defensively with his shot blocking inside. It gives osu three talented athletes to compete in the PAC 12. Lucas has a beautiful stroke. He should be one of the best shooters in the conference next year.

The most impressive thing about Lucas yesterday was zero turnovers in 34 minutes. He is a role player. Some games he plays his role well.... other times he does not. Fortunately I believe we have several role guys we can swap in and out based off performance.
