Sorry, boys, but your optimism is through orange-colored glasses. UNM and GCU are not Pac-12 caliber teams. So don't think for a minute that we will dominate conference opponents they way we dominated marginal teams. We've proven nothing except good pitching [KSU] can beat us. And the Pac-12 will have a lot of it. I disagree that the team has proven nothing, but I think your main point could be valid, namely that we don’t know how this team will fare against Pac 12 teams. However, if you remember the 2017 and 2018 seasons, a hallmark of our ball team was their will not to lose. I remember the 2017 team coming from behind to win non-conference games early in the season. They simply believed themselves to victory. I won’t say it is the same, but what we’ve seen this year is very similar. The loss at K-State was nearly turned into a win. And we have won the close games, sometimes in the 9th. A club that believes in itself is a difficult opponent.

We did what good teams do, we beat teams were supposed to beat. And calling Wick’s “good pitching” is an insult to him. He’s without a doubt the best pitcher we’ll face this year. He was GREAT against us, not just “good”. We’ll definitely lose more games this year, but the PAC-12 isn’t this huge step up in pitching compared to what we’ve seen.

If you read my post as being "pessimistic" you need to read it again. I was simply counseling posters not to go over board over the results of eight games - eight non-coference games.

Pitching depth is definitely deeper than in the past. I think we can all agree to that. The offense is still a big question mark in my mind. I think we will (hope we do) see a lot of 2-1, 3-2 or 4-3 ballgames. If we can do this, with our depth on the mound, we can probably win 60-65% of our games. But that is how I see it through my "Orange Tinted Glasses".

In my mind, the offense is still a question mark because not only did we struggle against Wicks, but we had issues with several other starters that we have faced (all 4 GCU starters and the last UNM game). We only started to see success when we got to the bullpens. I'm in the cautiously optimistic group at this point.

We shouldn't take too much away from the starting pitchers we struggled against though....GCU guys who shut us down were legit.....and Wicks is obviously special.
If anything I think the pitching weve seen to far is quite a bit better than we would normally see pre-season which will give this team a battle-tested kind of outlook at the plate come conference.....too orange tinted? Haha

That's been a big part of Beaver success - wear down the starter, and blow the bullpen up.

Always helps to get the pitch count high quickly.

Nice thing for us, we have a loaded bullpen!
