What can be done to keep Taylor Jones out of foul trouble? She is such a force with her scoring and rebounding! The Beavers will need her playing maximum minutes to have a realistic shot at going anywhere in the NCAA tournament.
Jelina (sp?) is an adequate backup and has the potential to develop into an excellent player, but for now these long stretches with no Taylor Jones on the floor are killing us.
Her fundamentals are mostly outstanding (keeping the ball up high when she gets it, not dribbling when it is not necessary, etc.) but she has a really bad habit of not having her arms and hands straight up vertical when she is attempting to block a shot. Even if she does block the shot cleanly doing that, the refs call a foul anyway.
Thanks for responses.
P.S. On another note, Taia Corsdale must have really suffered a severe injury. She does not seem to be anywhere near the player she was before.

It's not really an answer, but Brink from Stanford has been in constant foul trouble most of the season, and then all of a sudden it just stopped. She probably made some adjustments, but I think refs stopped calling ticky tack junk on her every time she turned around. Maybe Jones just needs to get a break from the zebras? You see players like Sabally and Pili that are human battering rams and they don't seem to spend most of the game sitting on the bench in foul trouble.

One thing to remember is Rueck is VERY conservative with foul trouble. He's an automatic sit when you get 2 fouls in the first half. He did the automatic sit thing again when she got her 3rd the the 3rd quarter. Taylor actually finished this game with only 3 fouls, so she played the 4th quarter without any fouls. The biggest thing with Taylor is avoiding silly fouls, IE moving screens, fouls on her post ups, etc. She's so disruptive as a rim protector you just want to make sure she is smart about what blocks she goes after, and just uses length and positioning more. I know it's something Katie works with her on a lot, so hopefully she will improve as her career moves along.

Taylor (like alot of post players) does get in foul trouble more often than any of us would like. She is one of our most important players for certain. Having her on the floor as much as possible will be necessary for this team to make any sort of run in either of the upcoming tournaments. She has had some of her best games recently. I thought she was excellent yesterday at UCLA. She's been such an important factor since day 1 that it's very easy to forget that she is only a Sophomore, that has had all of the same challenges this year as the rest of the team with all of the stops and starts. She is only going to get better. She's really good now and she is going to be great when her career is done. No doubt about it.

Did you catch that shot from the corner of the FT line? You can tell she is working on stretching out her shot. I remember her at one point saying she wanted to be like Marie. Maybe she will get there yet. She has an extra year at OSU if she wants to take it.

Also noteworthy was the way she shut down Miller--who was having a fine game--several times in the key when Miller got the ball deep in the key. Taylor had great footwork and forced her to pass back out without fouling.

You see players like Sabally and Pili that are human battering rams and they don't seem to spend most of the game sitting on the bench in foul trouble. I'm just going to say this. I am super impressed, and frankly shocked when the officiating in the women's game isn't utter garbage. This weekend is prime example. Somehow it's perfectly fine for USC and UCLA to reach, hack, and body up our team when they are dribbling 30 feet from the basket, or shooting a layup, or really any other time they are on the floor. Their bigs were literally clearing a path to get rebounds that would have made them at home with their linebacker group on the football team. It got so ridiculous with the Bruins that they finally called a few fouls on them, but only when they had committed 7 fouls on the same possession already. If we tried to do the same thing in Corvallis we would be pulling people out of the crowd to replace our roster because they would all foul out of the game in the first 5 minutes. I don't care what anyone says, it is obvious that bias does creep into the heads of these officials. They aren't that good to begin with, and everyone seems to be in a Covid hangover this year so they are even worse than normal. They also seem to be trying to let more physical play go in general (probably because they were taking heat for calling too many fouls in previous years *cough*cough* ie, Princess I), and they are of course doing a terrible job of it. Letting all kinds of stuff go, and then calling ridiculous ticky-tack stuff, or making everything a jump ball because they get overwhelmed by the fact that they have let bunch of stuff go already. It sucks, but what do you do? We are probably getting what we are paying for here. Limo Larry should just pack and go now. Someone who gives a dam might actually do something about it.

One of the biggest issues I see regarding the officials is that there are two extremely bad ones in barlow and scoville. Both have been around long enough and are assertive enough to poison whatever crew they are on. barlow is the most biased by far, she apparently hates our state since she is as crappy to the schmucks as she is to us. That is what made yesterday's game even more impressive, we not only beat the bruins but also the zebras.

They are correct. Stanford is the third school she is biased against. The best time to have her is when we play either stanford or the schmucks.

I know I always groan whenever I see her ready to work one of our games. She showed her bias quite clearly a couple years ago when she t'd up coach. She was on the visiting teams end of the court and Rueck was facing the other way being ready to sit down when she called a technical foul on him. This was a home game and she made a really crappy call, the crowd was loud and she turned and called the foul. There was no way she could have heard anything he might have said and a not insignificant amount of time had gone by. She gave coach at least another t that year and I think a third.

Ref talk is tiresome. Can’t do anything about it. Move on .
