“5) Pick and roll? When have we ever done the pick and roll? Sure you have the right University?”
The pick and roll is available on every screen. We set a high screen a couple dozen times a game. Just because we don’t use it doesn’t mean the pick and roll isn’t available.

Aleah and Jones would be a great pair to do this with as Aleah can shoot the three and drive, while Jones can shoot the mid range shot and quick enough to get inside. But they need to work on it, and from I've seen they have not done so.

Aleah and Jones would be a great pair to do this with as Aleah can shoot the three and drive, while Jones can shoot the mid range shot and quick enough to get inside. But they need to work on it, and from I've seen they have not done so. They run the pick and roll every time they screen high. It’s not successful for the reason several have pointed out. The guards don’t rub off their defender with the screen, allowing the opposing player to go over the top. The point of the screen is to force a defensive switch. When run correctly the defender is pinned on the chest of the screener who then reverse pivots, which keeps herself between the ball and defender. The switching defender needs to decide if she stays with the ball or covers the post going to the rim. With the defensive guard on the posts back it’s a 2 on 1 game. A pretty simple play but one of the hardest to defend, if it’s run correctly. Incidentally TVO ran it correctly in one of the games, maybe Colorado?

What makes the pick and roll more than just setting up a screen is that the person setting up the pick/screen is also an offensive option. I have never seen this happen since Gulich left and I only saw that happen a couple of times with her. Just doesn't seem to be part of SR's offense. Needs a lot of practice between the two and the guard needs to really know what they are doing so that they read what is going on very quickly. So far all I've seen is screens that tend to wiggle around a lot.

List three aspects of the game of basketball at which this year's team excels. I'm very interested in what you have to say. Now, if you really want to get cranky...here are aspects of the game the Beavs have, over the past 8 years, been very good at. 1. Rebounding 2. Defense 3. shooting 4. proper screen setting 5. pick and roll 6. excellent post play 7. back door cuts 8. team speed This team is no where near the sum of its parts. A collection of good players that add up to a not good team. I don't know what's missing. I can't say I watch enough to have an educated opinion whatsoever, but my first reaction when I read that was "Mikayla Pivec."

1 v 1 lock down defense. More importantly, being a lockdown defensive team when it matters most. Stanford exposed our defense in the 4th quarter. Will it improve--yes. Our players need more games, and, our coaches need more games to determine what groups on the floor do various things well (rebound, defend the 3-point line, etc.). We played Stanford well offensively for 3 quarters. We lost our legs in Q4, and then Stanford's experienced TEAM put their gym shoe on our collective throats and reminded us how to play 1 v 1 defense, and, TEAM defense. Stanford reminded me of past OSU Teams who could shut down an opponent in the 4th quarter.

Corosdale has been somewhat injury prone. The shoulder surgery one offseason and the hamstring last season. She came in a stretch four who could also score inside and is now she pretty much only shoots threes. This squad badly needs more offense from the four position, but I don’t quite see Taya providing it. I think we’re all hoping that for next season Kennedy will be fully recovered from injury and ready to go. If this is the case, she has the best shot at being able to fill the offensive void at the 4 position while boosting our rebounding and defense against bigs. I believe we were all hoping these things for Taya as well, but not to the same extent. Now if we are able to land a certain 2022 recruit, the team’s future at the 4 looks extremely bright. They need to get her into a game for one play. That gets her another year of eligibility.

I'm not sure how getting her into a game gets her anything.

This year doesn’t count for eligibility, meaning the only counting year she has played would be her freshman year, so she would be a sophomore next year just like TJ. It’s basically just a redshirt year for everyone, unfortunately she wasn’t able to play during it.
