First two games are on Friday. Utah State at 1:00 and Cal St. Fullerton at 3:30pm.
Does anyone like softball? Can it grow a following here like it has at WASHINGTON, the ARIZONA schools, UCLA and oregon?

I love softball, but have to admit I don't follow the Beavs that closely. The wife and I used to drive down from Portland to watch the games. I would love to see them have strong teams again. When the weather is great, watching Beavs softball is a nice day trip.

I think until they are relevant no one will care. Unranked and not expected to be good. Mediocre at best

Mediocre at best They have played in the NCAA tournament in four of the last five years there have been complete seasons. The time they were left out they were well above .500. I'd love our men's basketball program to be that "irrelevant." |

Beavs just beat CSF 5-4 , scored two in the top of the 7th and then shut them out in the bottom .
Now a 2-0 start on the season !

gnawitall posts recaps and summaries of softball games. There is a following here. I wish there were less time conflicts between softball and baseball, so those who want to do a double header have the opportunity to do so.
As for another poster calling the program mediocre, the problem with the program is being good in an elite conference, where just being good isn't good enough to make a run for the top. The program does have what it takes to make it to regionals, but hosting is a tall order at the moment unless the team can make a run for a top half finish in the conference.

I did say mediocre. They won against Utah State but no one knows. Why? All one ever hears about is oregon.I think the failure to market the program never giving info to the lazy sports writers. Now my reading about the program is based on games I have seen live. I winter in California and see the team in Cathedral City if they come there. We lack fundamentals. Shortstop makes to many errors.etc. I am in Surprise At Today. Small college and high dchool clinics. Staying at Hilton. 1/2 mile from Stadium.

How much should we care about softball? For me, I care because it's an OSU sport, and I can't help but care for everything the Beavs compete in. They're a decent program in a tough league. If they start getting to the softball CWS I will care a whole lot more. |
