Comments about how Aleah wasn’t a real PG or at least not a good one lead me to try to figure out who are the best PG’s in the Pac-12 and how to compare them. The following is a listing based off of stats that seemed to me to indicate a good PG. Assists but not blocks etc. The top in any category gets 7 pts and the next one 6 etc. while ties get the same score. I didn’t weight any of these which will mess things up some as someone who is way in front of others, such as Aleah in 3-point shooting %, will still just get one point more than the next player. All stat’s are based on conference games only to keep the comparison more even.
The categories I used were Assists/game, Assist/TO, Pts/G, 3pt%, Steals/G, FG%, Total FT/G.
Total scores-
Goodman (OSU) 43 pts
McDonald (USC) 34 pts
Paopao (UO) 31 pts
Osborne (UCLA) 31 pts
Gylten (Utah) 29 pts
Rogers (USC) 25 pts
K Leger-Walker (WSU) 24 pts
One thing that I hadn’t known before was that we have some scoring PG’s in this conference as 4 of the top 5 scorers are PG’s.

beaveragain - - a really impressive collection of players....I've been a fan of Rogers (USC) for a while now...Her talent is way ahead of the coaching she is receiving... Osborne is a killer and I think she would be a star on any team in the conference - even Stanford....Everyone knows how good McDonald is, but in 2 years Paopao (sp) will be a big star in the Pac-12...(If her legs hold up). I don't really have anything substantive to add to your list - except to say it's a helluva collection of extremely good players.... GO BEAVS!!

I looked at some stats recently. I've really been impressed w/ Osborne this year, I was stunned to see she's shooting under 40%. But that's nothing, Leger-Walker is around 36% and under 30% from 3. No doubt she's had a big impact for WSU, but she's very inefficient.
No Kiana Williams? She's not exactly a traditional PG, and her numbers aren't great, but I think she's worth putting next to these others to see how she stacks up.
Not exactly surprising there is no one from Cal or UW worth mentioning (although Sadler has some potential).

I'm one of the villains in this discussion, so I'll bite. If you are looking to statistically prove SR knows more than us in the peanut gallery, well, no evidence for that is needed whatsoever.
That said, I still believe that if we were able to look at the plus/minus for TVO vs. Aleah, TVO's minutes would look measurably better. But since I don't know of that being tracked anywhere, it's a pretty empty counter to your point.

Minor point on TVO - no matter what her numbers are or are not...
Basically, she's played 4 games against bottom half teams.... Opposing coaches have not yet made any policy decision on her. That is, whether her presence on the court warrants any changes from business as usual. If she continues to perform well - and I hope she does - the coaches will begin to take her more seriously, they will assign better defenders to guard her, and will they cheat over on her a bit....
I like what I've seen from her, but I haven't seen enough....When opposing coaches decide to clamp down on her, and she still produces impressive numbers, that will be the time for us to believe she has the makings of a special player....
Those of you who already think Talia's gonna be great, no problem. She very well may be...... Personally, I'm slower on the uptake - I need more evidence and we just might get it in 24 hours, or so, when she matches up against a faced paced quality team... GO BEAVS!!

Most teams don't have as many good perimeter defenders as Stanford does (Wilson, Williams and both Hulls can really get after it on D). If TVO starts garnering more defensive attention that probably means more good looks for Goodman, Goforth etc. Pick your poison.
edit--also, TVO's first appearance was against WSU, currently in 5th place, so by definition not a bottom half team, just a point of correction

For not being a “Pac-12 level PG,” Aleah has been really good this season. She’s having one of the best shooting seasons in school history. I worried that being the primary ball handler would pull her drag her percentages down, but that has been far for the case.
She’s exceeded my expectations for sure. Hopefully adding another primary ball handler in Talia help us close out the season strong.

I'm pretty amazed how TVO has done, because she has had such little time with her team mates, and Is obviously a quick learner and has great basketball instincts. If another team puts their best perimeter defender on her...fine. That should free up Goodman, who is one of the top three point shooters in the nation. Some players are just special...I believe that will be the case with TVO since they won't be able to double her having very good players around her and we will make them pay.

Thanks for doing this. I've been diving into stats myself this past week. It's one of the strangest years to make comparisons because of Covid, but I'm glad you did this. Despite the rough year from the Beavs at this point, Aleah has had quite the year. Now that we just got news of another 'Covid Stop', I will be shocked if Aleah does not return next year. Although the Beaver backcourt will still be young overall next year, the talent will be difficult to beat.

I really believe that Goodman's ranking on this list would not change much if she was playing the 2 instead. Maybe assists go down a bit, but maybe scoring goes up a bit.

If she didn't have to draw so much attention, it would normally mean getting looks that were more open, and with fresher legs. But I don't know if that would really raise her shooting percentages up much, they are already solid.
