This is a loaded February schedule, featuring four top-11 teams plus two really important games against Southern Cal and Arizona State.
The Beavers currently sit at 4-5 in conference play, good for seventh place. Oregon State is also ranked #45 in the NCAA NET rankings, ahead of both Southern Cal and Arizona State. An upset win against one of those top-11 teams would go a long way in terms of strengthening our tournament resume. A win or two in the PAC-12 tournament would as well.
While were far used to worrying about if we'll make the top-16 rather than the top-64, making the tournament with a team that started 1-5 in conference in the middle of a rebuilding, COVID-plagued season would be a solid accomplishment for this year's squad and a confidence builder to carry into the next.

If we beat the Arizona schools this weekend, things look much, much brighter going forward. If we only beat Arizona State, I don't see a path to making the tournament.
We have no quality wins thus far. If we don't start getting some, we have zero chance of making any sort of case to the selection committee.

I'm very interested to see our rotation against Arizona. I think Talia is going to need to play big minutes so you can have whomever is not being defended my McDonald initiate the offense.

Is the Arizona game officially happening? I'd be surprised if it does, seems like a fairly short time frame for a covid shutdown situation. UA played against Utah on Fri. 1/22, then postponed their game against Colorado on Sun. 1/24. Missed both games against the LA schools last week. Beavs were shut down for almost a month, I think UW was shut down for about 3 weeks. I just think this is gonna be yet another postponed/cancelled game and OSU will only be playing 1 game, against ASU this week.
edit--Cal hasn't played since 1/15. These things just don't resolve themselves in 2 weeks from what I'm seeing.

Cal seems to be back practicing: http://instagram.com/p/CKuM9s6BRuJ I think it usually depends on who tested positive within the program (a player, coach, additional staff member, etc.).

Here's the update on Arizona with quotes from their coach. Not only are they ready to play but it seems like they were relatively unaffected, able to continue at least some basketball activity while the one player who tested positive sat out. This should be a good test for both teams on Friday.

I see this coming weekend as critical to whether or not we get in or not. We really need to win both. A loss to UA would be manageable, as long as we were able to get one down the road against Oregon, UCLA, or Stanford. A loss to ASU would end it.
Cal brought in their HS kid early, so makes sense that they would keep going regardless of wins or losses.

The tournament selection has historically rewarded late surges, so assuming it continues, that should help. Adding players that made a difference also helps, although that's usually for coming back form injury or academic/transfer eligibility, not from HS eligibility, but not sure why that would matter.

The win over USC provided a solid boost to OSU's NET ranking as the Beavers went from #51 to #41, jumping over Washington State (who is currently #42) in the process.
UCLA and Oregon are #7 and #8 respectively, so if by chance the Beavs are able to steal a win in either of those games would likely give another boost.

After the UCLA win, Oregon State had jumped 11 places in the Massey Ratings to #22.
I have not seen an updated NET yet.
