When you make threes, you win games. There is a reason why the 17-18 team reached the Elite 8, and maybe if played at a different venue they could have reached the Final 4. Their ability to spread the floor and knockdown threes was a huge factor in their success. It allowed Marie who had exceptional interior moves to maneuver within the lane single guarded. And if she was double teamed, her very good passing ability allowed players to hit threes. It also allowed huge driving lanes for players to get to the basket. That team also defended really well. This years team could make some noise if they can consistently hit threes. They have the shooters.

It's absolutely amazing how much easier the game is when shots are going in. Defense, hustle, smart decision making, everything else matters, but you can't win when you don't make shots. It's probably nearly impossible to lose a game if you hit 18-27 behind the arc.

What's crazy is that we're still #40 in overall FG%.. maybe we should extend that defense a bit more. That is truly and abysmal rating. We are bad at TOs, and still only half that far down at #171. www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-women/d1/current/team/289/p4
