I honestly don't really get it. I can buy that the program has been through things, but I don't see how that really makes sense to bring up now. The reference to Barcelona, wouldn't only 2 players on the roster have been there (Ethan and Zach), and that was 2017 ... seems they've bounced back from that a few teams ago. Maybe 'we' here is all his coaching staff. And four of the top 6 kids done by Nov was 2016 I assume? That seems very embellished. Yes, Tres went down, and that was a big hit. Beyond that, S. Thompson only missed 6 games. Dew was booted from the team, and N'Daiye got hurt - is he really including them as top 6?? And I can't come up with a 4th player - Kone maybe, but he played din 23 games, although not ever healthy... but never top 6 IMO either. That team had Stephen, Drew, JaQuori, Big G for much of the season, and the fact that Kone, Manuel and Stacy weren't able to help much spelled disaster overall. Even with no bad luck, is that team even .500?
Bottom line, for me it came across as someone feeling the heat seater on high, and wanting to leverage a nice win as also an opportunity to make the win look more impressive (against all these odds against the program (concentrated from 4-5 years ago apparently). It has the net effect of diminishing the win for me with respect to WT.

Beaver basketball will struggle with W.T. The overall 93-96 record clearly identifies him as a ".500 coach".
Coaching staff as a whole doesn't recruit that well and the teaching is "spotty".
Every year is like an old tire, a patch here, a patch there and a seal or two before back on the wheel. A couple of mediocre preps, a couple of risky JuCos, a couple of bench-warming transfers and away we go.
Program has no identity - great defense? Relentless press/break team? Numbing half court slow tempo game on both ends? Who are we?
In 6 years, how much overall improvement do you see? Improved recruiting? Player development? Want an example? Tony Bennett at WSU. Mike Montgomery at Stanford. Lute Olson at Arizona.
Good guy. .500 coach.

Bummer that the video cut off. At the 3 minute mark he gets into Ernest Killum passing away, Corey Benjamin going pro too soon, CJ Giles getting kicked off the team, Rolando Blackman with the game winner in 1981 and then goes on a tangent about how the wildfires made it especially tough to be outside for a couple weeks in the summer of 2018.

Interesting ... so the full context was more that OSU MBB is some hard-luck program that has extraordinary circumstances that hold us back? Going back to Killum makes even less sense to me if this was to support his point of "we bounce back through all of it" ... the program has virtually not even gotten off the mat since Killum passed, what's this "we bounce back through all of it" he speaks of?
