Lost 19-17. Barnes loses in SV to end it... Hunter Willits also loses 2-1 SV. Ryan Reyes with the win in his Beaver debut.

Turner humbled by a 4x SD state champ. 199-2 HS record. He was out of it after the TD and NF points, looked gassed after that. Hunter was jobbed on 2 calls a TD out of bounds and exposure at the end of a :30 ride out. Ulrey getting stuck didn't help our cause either. Good job by upper weights, including Barnes to took a top #16 guy into OT with...all with a bloody eye.
On to SDSU...they will be tough, then Mizzou tougher yet!

SDSU 20 OSU 12 final
Sparse details, this wasn't kept real time on track, and video feed went to basketball.
BK, Grant, Hunter, Reyes won. Turner dropped another one, Beisley lost in SV. Dixon teched vs a top-10 guy.
Mizzou throttled both SD & ND, I expect similar vs Beavs

NDSU's 141-pounder is the nephew of former OSU gymnastics All-American Deanne Droegemueller, who later worked for the Chargers under Mike Riley.

That was an inauspicious debut Well, I guarantee that wasn't our best roster. No Olquin, no Doyle. Devan Turner didn't wrestle well. He is either out of shape or dinged up and Hunter Willits got jobbed out of a win that would have tipped the team score in the first dual. Pendleton and Co. are going to turn this program around, but it isn't gonna be overnight. It's a slow build in wrestling. Even the best high schoolers don't come in and win all the time in college. It takes time. When Doyle is healthy, Olguin is in and Turner figures it out, we will be a competitive squad, but top 25 at 25 is probably the ceiling. The future will be great, but it will take a season or two to get there, and then top 10 finishes is really something we should be achieving, as we are the only D1 program in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and NorCal. |
