Lost weekend, brooms are out in AZ, ugh! Had a lead at least and then gave it away, we are NOT a good team right now and miles away from being playoff ready!! PC will NOT be happy this week, look for some changes next week. We are rebuilding, we are not a PAC12 level championship team this year, too many holes to fill and pitching is marginal at best, clearly expectations were too high, maybe next year. AND, someone PLEASE get us out of the top 25, that's just ridiculous to be in there. Go Beavs,

"Disappointing" ? It's not been pretty, but pretty much what you could have seen without the focus on tradition and "orange googles". And, by who's measure? I would think that might be mostly of the overzealous fan who just expects OSU to roll out PAC 12 titles. I was blasted on this board earlier in the season when I gave an honest assessment from someone who has seen 30+ years of HS and college ball. This team was 17-13 at best... 13-17 at worst... probably closer to a .500 team than most wanted to admit. AND... 17-13 was with DREW/healthy staff after the ASU series! Just an honest opinion, not a right or wrong thing, just what I saw compared to what OSU has had in the past and the types of teams that win Pac 12 titles. When you give assessments/opinions on this board many take it as personal insults to their own opinions or worse yet like you are disparaging the players or PC. This team is in no way close to a title team and never was. A lot of things had to go PERFECT for them to sniff a title. That was squelched as soon as Drew went down. The traditional Pac 12 powers being down and there being no dominant team this year kept hopes alive, but we're closer to a middle of the road team than a championship team. We had no returning "horse" on the mound, our recruiting class not only made us younger and more inexperienced, but it did not include pitchers of any significance. I like our freshman, but they are not BIG bats nor outstanding defenders that can make up for the lack of shutdown pitching. On top of that we are not getting significant improvement from the returners. Some have been better, other worse or status quo... again not enough to make us an offensive juggernaut. Our pitching is not terrible, our offense and defense are sporadic at best. This team was always a year away. Getting a 2 or 3 seed and playing in a regional was always the goal to me. Get that experience and move to next year. Drew, Hickey, and Tweedt fully healthy... vast improvements to Thompson's delivery mechanics/balance point... experience gained be Fehmel, Eckert, Church, Heimlich and the frosh bats... Cary returning to full health... and some of the frosh arms actually develop to round out a staff. BUT, we still enter next year in the same boat... no true experienced #1 and then a bunch of question marks that will have to plan out. Plus the league will only be better than this year. All that being said, we have (3) Pac 12 series left... at least 6-3 (an impressive sweep in there would be really key... and UP better be a W) leaves you at 16-14 and hoping the fall from top 5 team to out of top 20-25 doesn't effect selections if you finish 5th or lower. Can see (4) Pac 12 teams going, 5th maybe???

Next year maybe, but not unless there is some measurable improvements in pitching and hitting over the summer and winter. Injuries took a toll, maybe, but all other teams have injuries too, so I don't spend a lot of time worrying about the injuries, can't change it anyway. We could very well be left out of it this year unless something improves and quickly. There is no room for error for the Beavs to get in, and they have not proved they can battle that hard yet.

That was truly a lost weekend. No chance of hosting now, but a #2 or #3 seed is certainly not out of the realm of what's possible. We had a great non-conference run, but that was due to a weak non-conference schedule. Unfortunately it gave many of us, including those who give out rankings, an unrealistic expectation of how we would perform for the remainder of the season. Orange tinted glasses? Of course we have orange tinted glasses. What do you expect from a fan message board? I'm going to go back outside now, dig some more blackberries out of my garden, and start thinking about how we are going to take it out on the dux this coming weekend. They aren't going to know what hit them.

Hopefully we can take the series from them and maybe a couple of losses to the front runners would help. IMO, we are in a precarious position right now, lose another series and we likely will be out of the post season and rightfully so, a sweep by ucks or anyone and we're done. Maybe that's a good thing, this Beav team is arguably the weakest team in a decade at least, maybe more. Regroup and come out with some fire next year, I just think that playoffs right now would be a disaster waiting to happen. Win or sweep this weekend and maybe, just maybe, we can get it together enough to be competitive once again, hope is eternal.

If the season ended today, the Beavers would probably be in. However, I would personally feel a lot better, if Oregon State passed Arizona State into fourth. 7-4 would probably be enough to punch a ticket. Short of that and the Beavers are at the mercy of the committee. Oregon State certainly has enough wins to get in, but that nonconference slate was so soft that 35 wins may not be enough.
