Also remember, we usually have several more pre-season games to work things out as well.

Are we looking at a first bottom half finish in years?? I've only seen one half this year, so don't know how bad it is maybe?? Were we really that bad??

No, actually worse.

Please remember this is a very young team. VERY young. Not just existing FR/SO but also new comers JR/SR. It takes time to jell and gain D1 experience.
There are things called growing pains. This team is experiencing these pains.
Wayne Tinkle, is that you? I don't think you get to count Senior grad transfers as "young" Half of SR's rotation is Juniors & Seniors.....that is not "young"

There are only 2 players on the team (Aleah and Taya) who have been in the program for 4 years, and just 1 (Jasmine) with 3 years. Furthermore, Taylor is the only 2nd year recruit currently able to play who actually played last year. (I'm not including Noelle in that last observation; she wasn't a recruit.)
Our current 'senior' class was high on quality but low on quantity (but two), and our junior class just didn't work out. Jasmine is playing better this year, but Trish is gone and Andrea has never played a minute.
So there are a lot of players still just trying to find their niche on this team and learning Scott's system. When one of your 'established' players (Taylor in this case) has an off game or two, it's hard to find somebody to pick up the slack.
The offense is fine - averaging 81.5. Defense and positioning for rebounds is the problem.

Aleah. Has always been surrounded by very supportive and talented perimeter players. That's new this year also. She seems to be picking up the scoring part fine. We were really burned inside with the utes. Scott should try a three some of. Helena 4 Taylor 5 and mack 3. That might help Taylor more. High low it.

I agree with beaverbooster that defense and rebounding position are the biggest problem area so far, and I beleive with the players on this team, both of those will improve.
Out of all the bad from this game (and there was plenty) the thing that killed me the worst was the Beavs inside shooting. So many shots rolled out instead of dropping in the basket. For Utah, some of those 3 point shots were amazing. Play that same game again, and they probably miss more of those shots....I bet they miss that many in practice without any defender.
You know what bugs we about the game of basketball? The Ref's. It's too easy for them to control a game by the way they call it. I try hard not to be biased, but in this game the Beavs got called for a foul most of the time when they reached in, or blocked a shot. Utah reached in everytime Sasha drove to the hoop, but didn't get called after the first few minutes. Maybe they are better at reaching in without fouling than the Beavs.
It should be noted the Beavs should have been called for fouls at the end of the game (imho)when they reached in, but the Ref's called jump balls. Again, that's my problem with Ref's. I know, it's a tough job.

They are so bad they are able to poison the other two refs they work with.

FYI: It's Bob "Scofield". Scoville are the units in which we measure the heat of peppers. Go Beavs!
