END OF STORY. I've never, ever seen a Rueck team rebound this poorly. Yes, they're slow. Very slow.
If you make a list of what the Beavs did well tonight, it's a short list....Very short. GO BEAVS!!

This is the worst a an OSU women’s Defense has looked in the past 7 years.
Hopefully they start working together more in that zone and we see it improve.
Right now I see a lack of communication on defense and a lot of blown assignments leading to wide open 3’s. They also have a minor problem rebounding in their zone. Very uncharacteristic of a Rueck coached team.
I thought taya played her best game of the season
Sasha will be one of the greats to ever play at OSU. Unfortunately she is a freshman and it making freshman mistakes right now. Learning when to drive and play under control will take time but she will get there. I’m excited to see the progress.
Jaz needs to play more. She has improved big time.
Taylor is struggling and a lot has to do with our guards inability to get her the ball in the right spots
I believe Scott said Jelina reminds him of Arvitis Sabonis. That is a perfect comparison in my opinion. She is slow and watching her run up the court is painful but man can she pass and has a great touch. Excited to watch her develop her game

The team looked more tentative to me than slow, and and reactive vs. initiatating/exerting their will. Utah dictated how that game went. THat's what made it so frustrating to me - we got beat because our play was fundamentally poor and let Utah's aggressiveness dictate the outcome. In no way do I believe Utah has a similar level of talent, but they looked better coached and looked like they wanted it more. I'm used to OSU teams being the less talented, hungrier team, so this view from the bleachers quite unpleasant.
That said, they'll figure it out ... but teams like ASU will continue to be a problem for this roster.

IMO, too many newbies and not enough preseason games to figure out the starters/bench - and we lost a ton of experience last year. I'm going to give it a bit more time before passing judgment.

Has Scott made any comments in regards to the game?

Rebounding was horrible, but I'm not going to say it was the rebounding that was bad, but rather, it was the boxing out that was horrible. I have a feeling they will be working on that big time in practice.
411500 has mentioned a couple times now that this team is slow. I have great respect for 411500's opinion, but I think I need further definition of what is meant by 'very slow'. I just haven't decided yet if I agree. Aleah, looks slow, even when she is driving to the basket she looks slow, yet thus far this year, she's been very effective offensively, so at least offensively, I don't care what her speed is. Sasha is not slow, and I agree with osushaner above that Sasha will be one of the greats to play at OSU. I will probably be one of the few to say this, but I almost already like her overall talent more than Destiny. Yes, there are some things offensively in particualar that Destiny is much better at, but when it comes to overall game I can't wait to see how Sasha develops.
Anyway back to speed. I want to figure out what slow means, and is beaverstever correct that this team is more tenative than slow. There are some slower players, Aleah...Taylor...Jelena, but I think the main slowness may be tenative and not really slow.
Jasmine is having a solid year. I expect Ellie will step it up, but if not, Jasmine may find herself starting at 3. I really think we will see Ellie find her game though.
Taya did play her best game of the year, and this is the type of performance we need from her, and frankly I expect. If she is not at least a 10 and 7 player, the Beavs will have a rough time.
I still say Savannah is better than I thought she would be as a freshman as well. She is going to have some real tough competition at the guard/wing position the next few years though.

What is slow? In basketball I'm a pragmatist, so I measure slow by what happens on the court.
If you're on defense and your man blows by you, you're slow on defence. If you're a defensive rebounder and an offensive player beats you to the rebound, you're slow in rebounding. If you're playing zone D and a perimeter player is consistently open for a 3, your zone is slow. If you play a whole game with only one effective fast break, your breakaway game is slow. If you play a game without getting your hands into the passing lanes for steals and disruptions, your hands are slow. If the opponent gets most of the loose balls in a game your get on the floor game is slow.
In all these way the Beavs seemed slow to me. Furthermore:
Utah is not ASU, they are not UA, they are not UCLA, they are not USC, they are not Stanford. They are not as good as any of these teams. They are a solid, well coached not-fast team. If they finish in the top five in the Pac it will be a miracle. To be slow by Utah standards means you're slow. Very slow.
What I've said is not terribly precise but I'd guess it's damn close to what Coach and his staff said to one another after the game - and then they said it again the next morning after they watched the replay...
At any rate, that's how I see it. GO BEAVS!!

Rebounding- we are missing the best rebounding guard in college basketball history and all-time OSU leading rebounder from last year. Were also missing Brown. Her and Pivec combined to average 18 boards per game. So the team needs to pick up the slack. It might take a few more games for that to sink in. ATBS, we are +3 in rebounding even after getting crushed on the boards by Utah. Defense- we are missing the same player who was all Pac 12 first team defensively. Fast, slow. What about a speed characteristic that is more important in hoops than any other? Quickness. Look at the first step of Goforth/Slocum v other guards. The difference is quickness. A suddenness that creates an advantage over the defender. You know it when you see it. Furthermore, there's quick hands and quick feet. You need both; and it's worthless without being able to control it. All in all, I agree with mbabeav. Don't overreact.

I agree with the "Don't overreact" as well. If I try to compare the talent at each position with other Pac 12 teams, I like what the Beavs have. It's just a matter of them developing as a team.
Again, I even hate saying this, but Taylor had a horrible game. 1-10 shooting and 5 TO's. If she even has an average game, the Beavs win.

What we seem to be missing right now (not to say we don't have one, they may not have emerged yet) is that bulldog that doesn't always show up on the stat sheets: Mikayla Pivec, Gabby Hanson, Devon Hunter, Anna Marchbanks. IMO, Ellie is probably the one that shows the most potential to fill that role.

She's been fine on defense but having shooting difficulties. Show's what a smart fella I am...not.

Fortunately, the the problem she's actually having is more easily fixable that your original concerns.
