As a freshman, he was way overmatched, and I think people still think of him as that guy. He's not. I heard the announcer last night compare him to Adam Masten, which I think is a pretty solid comparison, and Masten is a guy I think most people appreciated during his time at OSU.
Masten as a junior: 33.8 mpg, 8.4ppg, 52/42/72 shooting percentages, 4.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.6 turnovers Reichle as a junior: 28.5 mpg, 7.9ppg, 42/34/78 shooting percentages, 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, .9 steals, 1.3 turnovers
Masten as a senior: 28.9 mpg, 7.6ppg 42/37/87 shooting percentages, 3.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.3 turnovers Reichle as a senior: 25.3 mpg, 11.7ppg 65/55/75 shooting percentages, 2.7reb, 4.0 assists, .3 steals, 2.0 turnovers
Granted it's a small sample size, but two of those games are against Pac-12 opponents. I don't know what people are expecting from him.....he's probably the 4th option on offense most of the time (behind Ethan, Alatishe and Calloo/Lucas). He had one bad play that I can remember last night....he attacked 1 on 4 on a "fast break," realized he didn't have anything and instead of just pulling it out, he did some weird dribble to the corner thing hoping to draw a foul and got it stolen. Other than that, I thought he was the most consistent guy out there.
People need to stop focusing on what Reichle is not, and start appreciating him for what he is.

I can’t really talk about Masten as he played during a period that I wasn’t paying any real attention to OSU basketball. But as to Reichle I think there are a few reasons why he isn’t held in high esteem. First, he came billed as a shooter and he really hasn’t lived up to that. He’s had some nice games and stretches, but his overall numbers haven’t been that good especially when combined with reason two. Second, he was very overmatched in other areas. And third, prior to this year he has been a starter for one and a third seasons on what many feel have been underperforming teams. His sophomore year he started 13 games and averaged 19 mpg. Most people felt his talent level was more on par with a 10-12 minute bench guy. Last year he started every game and averaged 28 mpg. Most probably felt talent-wise in Pac 12 he should have been more a 15-20 mpg bench player at best.
I’ve come to appreciate him. He plays hard, is willing to stick his nose into the fray, and comes up with some key buckets and rebounds. It’s just ideally he’d be coming off the bench. Is it his fault WT hasn’t been able to bring in enough talent to allow him to come off the bench? No. Hats off to him for making himself a serviceable if not ideal starter. If he can keep his 3-pt % at 40 or higher, I think he’ll have plenty who appreciate him by end of season.

I have no issues with ZR, and appreciate he does the best he can. My issue (and I think the general issues with him) is that what he brings to the table shouldn't qualify for starting minutes with a team hoping for a middle or better Pac finish..
I think the Adam Masten comparison is a good one, but he also started on a 13-18 team his senior year, and won a total of 4 conference games. Those of us concerned with ZR seeing so many minutes are likely hoping that this team could win more than twice that number of conference games, and more like 18-13 or better overall.

First, he came billed as a shooter and he really hasn’t lived up to that. Currently he has a higher 3 point FG% than Tinkle or Thompson did. If he shoots around 43% this year (again, he's currently at 54.5) He's going to finish in the top 10 all time at OSU for 3 point percentage.

I don’t remember saying Tinkle or either of the Thompsons were good 3-pt shooters. I’ve always looked at 35% as the cutoff line for good 3 point shooters. Arbitrary maybe, but that’s my thoughts — maybe you have a different line. Reichle has not exceeded 35% in any of his 3 complete seasons, and entering the year was lifetime 33.6%. Well you might say that’s pretty damn close, but during same time frame he had an overall shooting percentage of 38.7%. In my book that isn’t a good shooter. In his first 2 years, he also wasn’t bringing much else to the table. Last year his other numbers went up some and so far this year they’ve ticked up again. Like I said, I’ve come to appreciate him as his numbers have improved. And I believe I said if he can shoot 40% on the year from 3, more people will appreciate him. If he shoots 43% like you suppose, even better.
