Liz Heaston played for Willamette in 1997 (not 1981) under Dan Hawkins. She was the back-up kicker and only played in two games because of injuries to the starter. She was 2/4 on kicking extra points. That was a good Willamette team, too. They went to the NAIA Championship Game. After that season, Dick Koetter hired Hawkins to become the Assistant Head Coach at Boise State. After Mark Speckman replaced Hawkins, Heaston opted to concentrate on soccer.
Katie Hnida was a back-up kicker for Colorado in 1999 and was the first woman to dress for a bowl game, the 1999 Insight.com Bowl. She lost her spot the following year after falling ill with mono and tonsillitis. She chose to transfer to New Mexico in 2001. She was again the back-up kicker. She played in the 2002 Las Vegas Bowl, but her extra point attempt was blocked. She kicked two extra points against Texas State in 2003 in a 72-8 blowout. She played in one other game in 2003. After the 2003 season, she made her allegations that a teammate had raped her at Colorado. There were several reports of sexual assaults by members of Colorado and Colorado recruits. Gary Barnett was suspended for badmouthing Hnida, but was reinstated. He continued to be the head coach for two more years, which, looking back on it, seems crazy to me. Hnida did not play in another football game.
Tonya Butler was the AAA All-State kicker in Gerogia in 1998. She turned down offers at Central Michigan and two dozen 1-AA schools, in order to play at home for Middle Georgia College. She was 36/42 on extra points and kicked a field goal. She transferred to Georgia Southern to play soccer. She then transferred to West Alabama. She went 13/19 on field goal attempts with a long of 39 yards and 48/53 on extra points. She was the special teams captain at West Alabama both years and was Academic All-Gulf South Conference in 2004.
Brittany Ryan played four years for Lebanon Valley College. She was very accurate from 25 yards or less and was the starting kicker in those situations. A kicker with a stronger (but less accurate leg) kicked longer kicks.
April Goss was the back-up kicker for four years at Kent State, before going in against FCS Delaware State to kick an extra point in a 45-13 rout.
Sarah Fuller has apparently kicked 45-yarders in practice. She is supposed to have played because of COVID restrictions on other players. That was a decent squib for a player playing in her first game.
Great for Sarah Fuller! And great for NCAA and SEC football!
In my opinion, all you haters can suck a lemon.
