My only concern is we are too one dimensional and predictable. This makes us easy to defend and gives the competitor an edge on offense. One great play was the TD PASS to Gebbia on the double lateral. Yep, a trick play for sure , but it took the pressure off of Jermar having to continue to pound the middle! I have this concern as well, although I don't think the issue lies too much on Gebbia. I am not seeing receivers get separation. The TD pass to Quitoriano was a beautiful ball. He tried to go deep to Flemmings, and Flemings had zero separation on a streak pattern. If Flemings can't get separation, I don't know why he's out there because he's not going to go get any balls with his reach radius. We were pretty spoiled last year with Hodgins; we don't seem to have anybody to throw to that doesn't have separation this year, except at TE. There's likely a good reason why 1/2 of the receptions in this game with to the TE position, and I don't think that reason is on Gebbia.

Where are the speed guys who can open the field? Irish? Gould? Bueller? Anyone?

I have a big concern about the kick coverage team. The refs bailed us out on two LONG returns on calls that, while correct, really didn't affect the plays. Those boys need to spend a few hours (days?) strapped to a perpetual butt-kicking machine. OSU typically doesn't get those calls (see last week) and those returns would have changed the outcome. Great win Beavs!! Now lets get another one vs. the pond poopers down the road! Go Beavs!!

Phew! This whole thread kind of encapsulates my feelings on the game - frustrating win that was again a close game late in the 4th. Without rehashing things that have already been litigated, here are my quick thoughts:
Speights, Roberts, and Grant (sort of) have played well on D. Everyone else is pretty meh. I feel like our blitzers always look like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park trying to catch the kids in the kitchen once they hit the backfield - just unable to make sharp cuts towards their prey, arms just not quite long enough to grab them, more likely to tackle the QBs reflection in the stainless steel than the actual QB.
I swear that Cal’s RB fumbled down on the goal line when they ruled him down by contact, but once again the PAC-12 doesn’t have ample cameras covering the game to get a good angle. Not sure that it’s something to complain about when major sports are hemorrhaging money all over the country, but that’s two weeks in a row a sky cam probably would’ve swung the game decisively in our favor.
Gebbia’s arm strength really seems to narrow the field for us. Passes seem to take too long to get to the boundary, which I think is why our tight ends are so involved right now. This is my uneducated opinion, but WRs might have separation and the ball being thrown too slowly allows receivers to recover, and there have been numerous times I’ve seen Gebbia wind up like he’s going to deliver one to the outside or down the field and then change his mind and take a sack or throw it away. I don’t even think he trusts his arm strength right now. Tough gig. I’d say stick with him if he wasn’t turning it over, but he’s had multiple turnovers in each game I think, either fumbles or picks.
That being said, Jonathan Smith knows FAR more about Nolan, Moore, Gulbranson than I do, so if he thinks Gebbia gives us the best chance to win, so do I.
WRs may not be catching passes, but they’re all contributing and continuing to work their asses off. Bradford, Flemings, and Irish all with big special teams plays in the past weeks, Lindsey with the passing TD....good stuff from that group while the receiving part struggles.

Embarassing coaching and qb play, disappointing game and performance. Insanity is... well you know. Maybe take your own advice? Naw, probably not.

I've never seen another fan base as unhappy about winning as ours.

I don’t know how you could leave out the hero of this game, Arnold. 5 tackles, 1 for loss, and the batted ball to seal the win. I don’t recall his pass coverage like I do #18, so that’s probably a good thing!

It is a little tough for me to get a read on the DBs so far. The pass rush problems put a whole lot of pressure on the DBs. Can't cover a guy forever. Yesterday, Cal was in max protect with their makeshift O-line so Garbers often had time, and a couple of those long passes were as perfectly placed as can be. A couple of the PI calls were actually 'good' plays by the cover guy as their man had toasted them. Better a penalty than a huge play. I will reserve my DB assessment especially without being able to view the whole field. Even then, I know squat.

I feel we were fortunate. I do not understand why our defensive ends cannot hold edge or get to the we snd make plays. We were better in 2 Nd half. Can we handle prima Donna U? They are athletic. UCLA may be better the thought as well. I really dislike Oregon but they gave athletes snd doors. Can Gebba get the ball downfield? We must to give Jefferson room. If not a long day.
