The Beavers outhit them but the only thing that counts is the scoreboard. Dug a deep hole and almost came back to tie it. The good thing is that the Beavers didn't mail it in after getting down 7-0.

I'm not sure how PC expected to win, when he starts a guy who has pitched less than two innings all season, and then puts in a 2nd guy who hasn't pitched even one inning. Scotland Church did a great job, but the damage was done. Did Billy King ignore the wave from the 3rd base coach? It sure seemed like it to me. And how close was the throw out at third? You should NEVER get thrown out at third. Ugh, I hate losing to the dux. They had 1000 less "fans" than they had last week. Must be a flu bug going around.

I don't think Casey really cared about winning or losing yesterdays game against The Hole. If he did care, then different pitchers would have started the game. I think he was looking to this weekends matchup against Stanford. A non-league game 2 days before an important PAC-12 weekend, is nothing in his mind. I did like how we battled back instead of just rolling over after a nightmare of a 3rd inning. Just my 2 cents...

I think you're right, but as a fan sitting at PK last night, it was a frustrating thing to watch. Non-conference games do matter in RPI, not as much perhaps, but they do matter. And losing to a poor team like hole doesn't help the RPI any.

He had Hamilton and Atwood throw bullpen sessions on Tuesday - just in case.
Tells me he was pretty committed to NOT using up our bullpen in a Wednesday non-league game with a thin staff. Terrible scheduling, but luckily we got 6 nice innings out of Church and have our pen fairly intact for the weekend. Church could probably even give us a couple innings Sat/Sun.

A non-league "view", but from what I saw I'm not sure why Church has not gotten more calls during league play. He was around the strike zone with multiple pitches all night. Something greatly lacking at times in other calls to the pen.

Man on third, one out, 7-6.We needed a Madrigal bunt. Didn't happen. Now, two outs, with Ice. Usually good at going up the middle but was taking huge 'pull type' swings. Oh well, we competed. Have to agree with the pitching though. The sucks played to win, we played to get ready for Stanford. Does not change the fact that Horton is fat and the ducks just are not very good. That play on Donahues drive to right was hilarious. I don't think a little leaguer would have let that ball get by him.

Even Kenny Loggins said he's flying in the Danger Zone. Hopefully last night means he's turning the corner. Could be big down the stretch if he can bottle up what he did yesterday.

Yeah, Church looked downright nasty last night. Sitting behind home plate, I could see he easily had the nastiest breaking ball of anyone on the mound for either team last night. That slider is a thing of beauty when he can locate it, and nearly unhittable coming back door to a lefty.
