Starting in 2023, regional play will be held at TWO sites per year, with 8 teams competing at each site
2023: Greenville, SC & Seattle, WA
2024: Albany, NY & Portland, OR
This is cool because it means that BOTH Oregon AND Oregon State could play at Seattle in 2023 and Portland in 2024. This is because the 2 teams could be in separate Regionals yet still play at the same place during the same weekend.

The rise of both Oregon and Oregon St womens basketball programs both in strength and attendence certainly warrants Portland being awarded a regional. I believe awardng back to back regionals to the North West also speaks to the fact of the strength of WCBB moving to the Pac 12 and away from the East coast.

I agree and it is even more significant because getting awarded a "Regional" site just became twice as difficult (ie. twice as rare) as it used to be since the number of sites is now down to 2 instead of 4.

So in the future we bring 8 teams to a single regional and play 2 rounds, leaving 2 unbeaten teams from each regional to go to the final four? So it would be true to say that there is no regional winner?

Well, I would think of it as having 2 Regional winners (that advance to the FINAL FOUR) that just happened to have played and won their 2 games at the same location. But yes, there is no single overall winner from the Regional site. What will happen (as an example) is that the West and Midwest Regionals will both take place at the same location on the same weekend and the East and Mideast Regionals will do likewise. The 2 Regional winners from the 2 sites will not stay in that city to play a third game against each other, but rather move on to the site of the Final Four.

Speaking of the Final Four, too bad Portland didn't get it. Someday.
