This game was pretty much a reality check for the program. I think the players and staff had this marked down as a W. Then state came in and slapped them across the face.

I imagine LSU will learn from this one and build off of it. You had quite the team last year.....hopefully our team will continue its upward projection later this year

Costello, the transfer QB from Stanford, sets a SEC passing record with 623 yards in his first game. And they said that Leach's rinky dink offense would never work against the big boys of the SEC.. Impressive win for the Bulldogs

If they don’t get it together the next two weeks it will be a long season.

Leach and Washington state nearly beat auburn back in 13. If stats won games the cougs should have won.

I’ve been watching Leach’s career for a long time. He’s an interesting, entertaining piece of work, but man can he coach. When he came to WSU, some of our fans mocked the hire and implied that the Cougs somehow did OSU a favor. I could never figure the criticism. I certainly wasn’t glad that he took that job. He has been in some of the toughest little communities to recruit, and yet has wreaked havoc on opponents with higher profile recruits across the board. His system takes average talent and elevates it with his dizzying air raid attack. He inherited, literally, a Big Sky type roster in Pullman, and immediately made things exciting while he systematically added more solid talent. There have been some mixed messages about his leadership off the field and you never know what he’s going to say (good for a lot of great sound bytes), but I feel like most kids love playing for him. His system is such a pain to prepare for and defend. Costello must feel like he died and gone to heaven to transfer for 3 yards and a cloud of dust Stanford to MSU. Coming out of high school, he was a major national recruit, but injury and an unimaginative system at ‘furd must have left him pretty discouraged. No shock that in his first game playing for Leach, Costello throws for over 600 yards and sets an SEC record. I would love to see him light up the vaunted SEC defenses. His teams don’t inspire nearly as much on defense, and when the weather turned in the late fall in the PAC, they tended to struggle more offensively (especially against defense-rich UW), but Leach brings excitement and an edge. I may actually start following the Bulldogs a little bit. I’m definitely glad that he isn’t coaching against us anymore.

That, is coaching and a system.

lol ... but seriously it is a bit impressive how he can just go down there and plug-and-play his air raid offense into a team full of players he didn't recruit and take down the defending champs in their own house in his first ever game coaching there ... yeah LSU lost a bunch of players from last year's NC team but I saw someone posted a stat elsewhere that MSU had 10 freshman starting on their offense/defense in this game.

You take a hyper smart (Stanford grad student) qb and fast receivers that trust that he can put the ball where they are running to, and you can come out of the gate gunning. But 600+ yards, wow.
