Oregon State ventures north to the land of Conforto/Davis to land a RHP from Woodinville, WA. High School. Ethan Unruh is a 6'4" 175 pound pitcher that projects at 6'6" or 6'7" before he's done growing. Long legs, long arms and a body he hasn't grown into yet. Ehan's secondary position is 1B.
Entering his Sophomore year at Redmond, his fastball sits in the 85-88 range. He throws a slider at 69 mph and is is in the process of developing a 75 mph change of speed offering. His motion is simple, loose and efficient, delivering from a low 3/4 arm slot which is borderline sidearm. That release point results in arm side run that that confounds RH hitters. Similar to Cooper Hjerpe from the opposite side. In his game film, the movement is significant.
Unruh reaches 88 mph without a lot of arm speed. Arm speed is a primary development area for pitching coaches. Driveline Baseball, Gunderson Baseball Academy and City Baseball Academy in Seattle are skilled at increasing arm speed and consequently, more velocity. In other words, maybe a world of potential here.
Ehan packs a 3.76 GPA and is interested in Engineering, Business and Product Development. Plays summer baseball with GBC Northwest.
