He isn't enrolled in school so it is a done deal.

I just can't really come up with a good reason for him to make a move like this unless it's grades or something in his personal life. I understand he didn't play alot to start the season off but by the end it was clear he was once of our main offensive threats and obviously would have came in next year paying 30+ minutes a game. If anyone knows anything behind the decision please share.

Sounds as if grades might have been an issue if he stayed... that is reading a lot into it, but I would not be surprised to see him at a JC or DII or DIII.
He should have gotten more minutes early on, but that would not have changed his academic fortunes. Hoops and baseball are tough on academics even with all the support they give.

This is a huge problem. I really liked his game. He was beginning to light it up a bit at the end of the season. Who takes his spot?

If it is true he did not enroll in any classes, he wasted a term of free tuition by not using it. The classes he could have taken at Oregon State for free as an undergraduate will still have to be taken somewhere else, unless his plan is NO DEGREE from any University/College because he thinks Derrick Bruce is destined for millions in the NBA. Best to cut this guy loose rather than let his attitude infect the rest of any future teammates and recruits.
Best of luck to him.

Sure sounds like academia was a challenge for him. Hopefully he hits the books.

Terrible, terrible news. By the end of this past year, he looked like the best of all of the freshmen.

That bums me out. Don't think it's a huge blow to the program given he could struggle for PT if JM is all he's touted to be, but I was hoping we were headed towards a Mike Bibby/Jason Terry scenario that UA had (a very successful situation at that). Besides, I really like his game, although it didn't ever seem to mix that well with what WT wanted to do.
May have been about academics, but maybe not be either. The kid has game, but we rarely saw it last year - he may simply have decided he wasn't in system where he'd reach his full potential.

Sounds like he struggle academically just as I did when I tried to do football, school and social as a freshman. I got so behind on my school work I thought the only way would be to drop out. Good news I transferred to OSU just to be a student and it worked out. Best of luck to him and I think he has serious skills.

I wonder if a parallel can be drawn between Seth Collins and PJ Bruce in terms of being more focused on individual stats than team goals. PJ definitely is a talented player who absolutely can help this team, but if he was told Duvivier is still going to be the starting point guard next year, or that McLaughlin was going to get every opportunity to play and start as a freshman as well, well then maybe he wasn't willing to be a second or third option in the backcourt, despite the fact that he might've been the best 6th man in the conference and still played 20-25 minutes a game. For some guys it's hard to see the forest through the trees.
Also, much like Seth Collins, he's one of the most entertaining guys to watch, but that doesn't necessarily equate to wins - I mean, he did average 20 ppg in those last two games, but we lost them both.

I wonder if a parallel can be drawn between not being focused on school and no longer being enrolled in school.

Three sets of bad news: 1. 10 days into the Spring signing period and still nothing. 2. Tres needs foot surgery. 3. And now Bruce is gone.
I'm ready for some good news!
