The college ranking of draft prospects is indicating a positive outcome from Kevin Abel's elbow surgery in April of 2019. Kevin is ranked 14th among the collegians by one service and recently, 24th by Baseball America. With a satisfactory pitching performance in 2021, he should be off the board by the end of the first or mid-second round.
Our 2021 High School recruiting class has two early round prospects and their 2021 prep season will bear watching. Tyree Reed, an outfielder from Vallejo, CA.-American Canyon is ranked the 4th best prep prospect in the land by Baseball America and the #2 prep prospect by Prep Baseball Report. FWIW, that's higher than Mick Abel in 2020.
Malakhi Knight, the gifted multi-sport athlete from Marysville, WA.-Getchell has "helium" with the scouts after a "show out" summer in the high profile tournament events back east and down south. Knight is 6-3, 193, athletic (D-1 hoop prospect), really fast and can do it all on the diamond. Scouts say he is "toolsy". Baseball America has him the 43rd best prep prospect nationally and Prep Baseball Report has him at #21.
