Last year Im sure everyone noticed Tres would drop from a Guard/wing role to a power forward role when we went small. I saw a interview with the elder Tinkle saying he sees Tres more as a 2 or 3 in his sophomore campaign but with all the depth at the 1, 2, 3 spots we have next year I just didnt see anyway Tres does not find himself at the 4 more often then not. Duviv, Thompson, Bruce, McLaughlin are all guys who will see 20+ minutes a game. Then you got Dew who is listed as a SF . I have read he can guard post guys but offensively I don't think they want his back to the basket. I can't imagine this guy comes in and doesn't at least get 10 to 15 minutes a game. Then you also have Manuel who is probably the odd man out bit as we saw this year Tinkle tries to get everyone in every game at least for a couple minutes. So with all that being said i have to believe deep down Wayne knows Tres is going to see alot of time at the 4 this year.
Now on to the issue I am seeing. To start out Im comfortable saying pretty everyone here has some concerns about our lack of big men depth for next season. I just saw a interview with Wayne saying he pretty much expects Kone to redshirt unless something changed. So we fall to Big G, Drew, Ndiaye as our only true big men. Unfortunately they are all 5s. Drew would have the best chance of playing 4 but having big G and NDiaye in the game together probably won't happen. Pretty much unless Kone is a super healer Tres is our only option on our roster. I have to think there has got to be a jc or transfer guy out there who would be intrigued by the chance to go in and start for a prior year tourney team on the rise but we have not been able to find one yet and when i look at who is left there are not many impact guys left at the 4. Then to throw the huge wrench in everything Tres who is already undersized for the 4 is now having his second foot surgery. Where do feet get stomped on most? In the paint.... so playing him down low on D is putting him at higher odds of injury then he would on the perimeter.
Here is my solution and i want to know what you guys think. We move to a Golden State type offense since with thompson, Bruce and the others we should be very good from 3 point range. TRES is listed at the 4 but he's kinda like Green and is more playing at the top of the 3 point line and facilitating and can still ahoot jump shots. It would be kinda like a 4 guard offense and then you would have one of those 3 guys I listed who play 5 in down low. To protect Tres and help our rebounding we then have Dew who is playing the 3 drop down and defend the 4 so Tres can stay out of the defensive paint. To run this line up either Bruce or McLaughlin has to come off the bench. But honestly unless we find a transfer or jc steak late in the game what options do we have? And i know people will argue saying Tres foot is broken and that's better then tearing something so he will be fine once he heals. This is the second time in 2 years hes broken the same foot abs now they are saying it is not healing right. To me all these for things are not random and I see big red flags that could possibly end his career young if they don't get that foot under control.
Remember this is all just one person's opinions/ideas. What do you guys think???
