Probably a good call. The Pac-12 ran out of time. I do not see things getting back to normal for at least two months. Start up the season in February?

Best chance at most of the population getting a vaccine by then. Doubtful Moderna, J&J, or Pfizer are approved by November, more likely by December... then you gotta give it a few months to go through the priorities of distribution. Things appear to being going fine with final tests, it just takes time to sign up that many people. they are multi-site studies, in Moderna's case, 84 sites. it is a lot to coordinate, and it is hard to do it fast. The test design is a shot, a follow up shot in 28 days and then wait and see.

Supposedly, AstraZeneca is in position to start delivering its vaccine next month. I am still hopeful that we will be hearing great news soon. We'll see.

This really sucks, but it is the right decision. You can’t be exposing amateur athletes to COVID hazards when they’re not getting paid. Oh well, guess I’ll have to wait one more year to watch the Beavs play in the Rose Bowl.

I am not sure about the AZ vaccine, but most of what I have been seeing is that the vaccines are recommended as a two shot process - so 300 million doses still would cover less than 50 % of the population. Either we need to have another provider, or it's going to be a while before the athletes get covered.

It was the balance on side effects. A higher dose woudl of meant just one shot, but it was resulting in more severe side effects. So they are going lower dose, two shots for now. It has been very successful in monkeys. It should work fine. The issues with effectiveness will likely be related to people not getting the booster more than the vaccine itself.

If you guys want to read a good explanation of the Pac-12’s thought process, check out this document from the Pac-12 website: xs.pac-12.com/2020-08/Pac-12%20Covid-19%20Return%20to%20Play%20Considerations%2008.10.2020.pdfReading this, it’s pretty clear why the presidents pulled the plug. The virus is still running rampant in the Pac-12 footprint, especially in California, and there were going to be a lot of hoops they'd have had to jump through in order to do it safely. Pretty easy to see it would’ve been a tall order for every school in the Pac-12 to meet the recommended criteria.

I, for one, will be looking forward to Late Winter and Spring: Soccer on Wed, BBall on Thurs-Sun (MBB and WBB split the days), Wrestling and Gymnastics to fit in between the other schedules, Baseball/Softball Fri-Sun, Volleyball on Fri and Sun, Football on Sat. Golf, Rowing and Track where we can fit it in. Monday and Tuesday to recover and get the weeks worth of work done! I'm not being snarky, just hoping for the best. I wonder if they will consider an All-Sports Pass...

Its refreshing when presidents and chancellors make informed decisions based on science rather than political nonsense.
