How do we know they are “distinguished”? They say nothing about that in the article. But they do say “ The union’s concerns..”. The distinguished union?

There are a lot more than 25 faculty seriously concerned and rightfully so. It's not just professors, just think of all the other people employed and working on campus. Many of those people fall into the high risk group. I have no idea what the answer is to this situation and would not want to be one of the people who decide.

Distinguished Professor is the highest rank faculty can attain at OSU. Hall's article quotes "...Luis [sic] Bermudez, head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at OSU’s Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine and one of the distinguished professors..." Even though he spelled Dr. Bermudez's name incorrectly, Hall has been around and knows that a distinguished professor is a job classification, and would not use it multiple times in the article otherwise, unless he wanted to put a snarky edge on what he was writing. (The article appears snark-free from the writer's perspective...) At any rate, Dr. Bermudez was named Distinguished Professor in 2011. If you are curious who else has achieved the rank of Distinguished Professor, there's a whole list of names you can catch up on: leadership.oregonstate.edu/provost/past-distinguished-professor-award-recipients
