Welcome 3B/SS Levi Jones from Portland's Jesuit high school to the '23 recruiting class. Levi is 6' and weighs in at 162 pounds, and at age 15, projects some future gains in height and weight. A bigger version of Michael Gretler comes to mind. Defensively, Levi shows soft hands, good range and a strong arm across the diamond. His defensive profile says 3B but he also plays SS and pitches. A left handed hitter with good plate discipline, Levi demonstrates a good power projection. A long arc, 93 mph exit velo off the barrel with a launch angle lending lift spells power down the road. A 7.64 "60" won't clog the bases but it won't threaten Usain Bolt either. The good news is . . . .that speed has shown steady improvement every year on the clocks at Baseball Northwest.
Redundancy time: Solid character, team player 3.5 GPA with an interest in Engineering, eager learner, model citizen, leader. People are asking - Is Oregon State known for it's elite baseball program or the team's (astronomical) collective GPA? It is a cerebral game!
Levi plays summer ball on several elite teams. Northwest Futures Select, Baseball Northwest 15u, and The Yard Select . He has participated in two national Perfect Game tournaments in Arizona and made the All Tournament Team in both events.
Levi becomes the 4th member of the 2023 class, joining pitchers Drew Talvas from West Linn, Paul Miller from Lakeridge, and James DeCremer from Brophy Prep in Phoenix. I like the Oregon flavor and the emphasis on live young arms.

I meant to post something about this last week as Levi's mother is a very good college friend of a coworker. He told me about the commitment. Levi's dad played baseball at Tulane so there's some genes there. Levi is also a very good hockey player but has chosen to focus on baseball.

Thanks - Good stuff.
We may have some recruiting interest in his sophomore Jesuit teammate, J. Noble Meyer. Meyer is a 6-3, 172 RHP that is showing out and drawing recruiting interest from west coast schools. Meyer has eye-catching length, with a long, loose delivery. His motion is athletic and coordinated and has been whipping his fastball past 15u hitters at 85-87 mph in recent tournament play. He snaps off a sharp curve ball at 71-72 mph and has a change that registers 75-76 mph. The video clips on him leave you with an overriding impression - a smooth and effortless delivery of an 87 mph fastball. He looks like he could go 18 innings in a given start. His command is notable, he stays down and works both sides of the plate. I see an electric upside here - worth a watch for sure.
