Wow. I just read the article. I am disgusted. That Coach needs to be canned. Disgusting. No wonder we cannot win. This is so dumb.

Action should not stop at the coaching level but upward. They knew.

Yes - the shine/sheen on Barnes, Vydra and Ray might take a hit if this article is accurate as well. Very sad, but a reminder that no school, no staff is immune to this kind of thing, and checks and balances need to be in place, and even in the best of circumstances abuse of power and oppression of those susceptible to it happens. Sigh.
Go Beavers!

I played ball in the military. "Man's game, bitch." And we were NEVER treated like that. Hard work, discipline (NEVER PUNISHMENT). When you sucked, there were repetitive drills emphasizing technique. When fatigue started to happen, the coaches recognized that technique flew out the window. Drills stopped. Cool down, relax, take your lap and head for the locker room. Shower, head to the club and drink your beer. Talk among yourselves. Next day was a brand new day. Only time you were ever punished was when you needed at attitude adjustment. Stairs, low crawl, pushups until you lowered the altitude of where you were at. Your attitude was all on you. Wasn't one of us who wouldn't run through a brick wall for your teammates and your coach.

IF the coach can't handle the stress, then it gets dumped on the players - but to have it have to come out in the press before something tangible is done - the appearance of CYA by the people above him makes it sound even worse - right now no sport wants to look bad because they're all hanging by a thread economically.

Too bad for a good person.

It should be an obvious red flag when a coach has Sparta listed as their place of birth.

Too bad for a good person. She should have taken the hit, and maybe that is why she got canned. She has essentially been the top person in women's athletics for almost 2 decades. Barnes only takes the brunt if the info was accurately relayed. She was the person for women's athletics when the Wagner reign of terror was taking place.

First reaction...lets pump the brakes. This is one side of the story...not a balanced one. If Bernard was abusive,he will pay the price...if he wasn't ,then it will come out. It's a different day and age,so I wouldn't be shocked at anything. How many of us have attended a WVB practice? I haven't,so I can't speak to the validity of the allegations...

Pump the Brakes? Crazy. Fire Him and hold those that knew accountable. This is not political. It is a shame that these kids were put through this. I saw Lavonda Wagners practices and was appalled. She did nothing like this guy is accused of doing. The one thing that was the same is negative culture and poor results. Now we know why we are bad at volleyball. It can be fixed and no more bs.

Tayla Woods and Lanesha Reagan, former players, have come out in strong support of Barnard. Very reminiscent of the situation with former duck WVB coach Jim Moore. Many players accused him of verbal abuse and bullying. And some players strongly endorsed him. Some say he treated his better players differently than others. Ultimately he was let go.

His teams are horrible and now this. Why is he still employed? Hi team performance should have resulted in his release. This is such a no brainer and a big stain on Barnes
