The softball program has been to the NCAA tournament four of the past five seasons (excluding 2020). The year they didn't make it they were six games over .500. And you would fire her? Tough crowd. Even Kirk Walker's teams seldom finished above .500 in conference in the program's glory years. If conference wins/losses were your sole measuring stick, Pat Casey would have been toast by 2000, Scott Rueck by 2009. Softball should be a sport we should be able to compete in for hosting regionals and super regionals on a yearly basis. So if you think softball can do no better then that it is your choice. Why keep the bar so low? Even Utah routinely outperforms

OK, so toast by 2013. Splitting hairs. Don't think so in Scott's case. First 3 years records were 9-21, 20-13, and 10-21 in 2012-'13. If nothing else, the 20 wins in year 2 buys him another year or two. But, 3 years in, a coach's juniors and seniors were recruited by his predecessor, and he's far from winning or losing with 'his kids.' Barnard's been the head guy for 5 years though, hasn't he? So if you want to judge basis his won-lost record over the previous 2 years, I think that's definitely reasonable.

We routinely put up a very good record during the pre-conference schedule, and then struggle through conference. But I'm with Henry on this one. I'd keep Berg for as long as she wanted to be here.

But you are moving the goalposts from your original post, which said she should be fired for having a losing conference record, despite four NCAA trips in the past five years, and a winning record in the year we were not selected. PS: Utah was 2-21 in Pac-12 play in 2018 and 7-17 in 2019. We finished ahead of them in both years.

The VB team made the tourney in 2017, then lost their freshman all-conference setter for personal reasons. In 2018 7 Pac-12 teams made the tourney and in 2019 6 did. Needless to say the VB programs in the Pac-12 are outstanding, with Stanford winning in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
Nobody is satisfied with the way things have played out the last two years, but I am not sure that a different coach would have provided different results.

Pac-12 volleyball needs a competitive shake up like Pac-12 women's basketball did... Stanford being the one and only team to dominate over and over historically is brutal

Sports Illustrated isn't letting Barnard off the hook. They just ran article about him and in it they quote a recording from one of his players where Barnard says "the sooner you move on the better". OSU spokesman Clark said that that is against NCAA rules and the coach would NEVER say that. Seems like their usual investigation by they usual investigator was as useless as such investigations usually are. Oh, and three players have either attempted or seriously considered suicide. I wonder if they are going to do something before or after someone dies.
