PC sounded like he was ready to go ballistic BEFORE the game last night, so I can't even imagine how he was after the game.
Interview with Parker - from memory / paraphrasing a bit:
- Parker asking about injuries to staff: I don't give a damn about excuses. I'm not an excuse guy. I don't give a damn about injuries. - We all need to get better. I need to get better. Coaches need to get better. Players need to get better. It starts with me and I'm pissed off. - Some of these freshman are experiencing adversity for the first time in their lives, they need to learn how to overcome, build on little things. - We just aren't a very good team right now. We need to do the little things within the game. - On WSU Series: runner on 3rd less than 2 outs all weekend and we didn't get it done. We didn't cover bunts correctly, we had guys taking throws on the wrong side of the bag. all of those little things add up. - Teams are gunning for Oregon State. Our guys need to embrace it. - On Fehmel starting: Not really fair to him. He's a guy we didn't even have penciled in as a contributor at the beginning of the year. That's asking a lot to have him throw against Pac-12 teams. I'd rather not start him against Oregon since they'll load up lefties and that's a bad match up, but it is what it is and he just needs to pitch. Everyone in the bullpen has to step up.
So yeah.. don't think much changed between pre-game and post-game, but we got the win.

He even gave Parker a bit of a pause with his frank pre-game discussion. But that's how PC operates. No sugar coating things, and no excuses. I'm guessing the bus ride back to Corvallis was a long one last night. I'll check the road for bits of flesh when I drive up there this morning.

I thought Fehmel did a good job. He threw strikes for the most part, pitched to contact and early on the team played decent defense.

Yeah - I understand the frustration, but w/o Rasmussen, we are going to be 'soft' on the mound the rest of this season. What bothers me are the 'no brainer' mistakes. Lead off walks, hit batters, getting the ball up on 0 and 2, Losing focus based on key parts of the game. The 3 run home run last night should have been a ground ball double play. Yeah, we won - but, it should have been 16-2 , not even close.

Engelbrekt was the only Beaver to throw more than 50% strikes, while every duck pitcher threw at least that well. We walked NINE guys, they walked four. We got deep into counts and as a result threw a ton of pitches, 195 to be precise. Each team had a paltry four strikeouts. Nobody was getting fooled very much. One complaint on pitchers used: Why did they bring in Martinek in the breakout 6th inning? He had two inherited runners and the poor kid had only pitched 0.1 innings all year. Nothing like throwing a guy into the deep end of a pool that's infested with sharks.

The young man has the physical tools, but his pre-game was all about competing.

If that were the case, we shouldn't be very good at all: weekend series are three games which means, we need a good 1, 2, and three. At the very least we should take two of three. We shouldn't be "soft" even w/o Rasmussen. It's a matter of execution: we haven't been. And we've lost games during intense weeks [games bunched together] possibly because we now have only two reliable starters [Eckert and Thompson] and one young serviceable starter [Fehmel]. Fehmel's young and, therefore, he will be inconsistent. It would be nice if Martinek could rise to the occasion and I suspect that was the reason he was used when he was -- we need the kid. He'd better get used to the pressure, clear his head, and do the job.

Hope you're right about Martinek, we do need him, he was deer in headlights and didn't throw well at all, is he over his injuries, or ?? Looked very tentative out there and his motion didn't look comfortable??.
